Aargh! My skin is blotchy, I’ve got black hairs growing on my upper lip and chin, dry patches and big spots. I don’t know what to do!
Talk to me about your skincare routines, I can’t bear the whiskers and spots!

Hi,
like you I was getting spots, and really itchy areas too, especially around my nose and the odd, course whisker on my chin oh, and a really random one on my cheek! I bought some teenage spot lotion, clean and clear for the spots but it stung and went really red, just think my skin is more sensitive than iwhen I used this as a teenager.
I tried a fair few other lotions and potions but my saviour - is rebalance my skin by REMY, its a set of serum and supplement. It was recommended by my friend who swears by it and got to admit, I do too now, if fact I cut my skincare routine right down to just this so I actually think I save money - apart from the odd pamper night facemask.
I get the odd whisker on my chin but they aren't coming back as soon as I've plucked them out and they are lighter in colour now - maybe its because I kept plucking them out and they gave up - but my spots and dry itchness have gone after using REMY's stuff.
Hope you find something for your skin.
x

I get my face waxed monthly and am not yet menopausal! A friend is and swears by serum and collagen tablets.

LenaLamont · 22/01/2024 15:06

Since perimenopause my skin is awful! Dry, prone to itchiness and oh god the beard horrible tough hairs on lip, chin and neck. Lots of things I used for years suddenly make me itchy or blotchy.

But the hairs are the worst. I wax, I have them threaded, I pluck and nothing ever makes them weaken or stop. I could practically plait the damned things.

EnfysDilys · 23/01/2024 12:01

Thanks so much everyone, I echo re the horrible tough hairs, and they just don’t stop growing! Will look into suggestions 😀

Interesting to hear about collagen tablets. I've read somewhere you can't really absorb collagen orally, but maybe that's nonsense?

I've been getting electrolysis on my beard and tash, painful but works.
Skin is drier and deffo more congested. I'm using tretinion currently and have done for a couple of years. I'm not overly impressed but then think my skin could be worse without it

Marie2023 · 25/01/2024 09:18

Pluck the whiskers, use a dermaplaner for general hairiness in the face and invest in some good skincare products. Sugar House Organics have a couple of lovely serums plus an overnight facial oil and a great day cream called 22.

My skin lost so much elasticity and thickness Within the last year or so. It looks constantly dehydrated no matter how much water I drink and how much I moisturise it. I’ve started taking HRT and I’m on collagen powder but no improvement noticed yet. Any advice? Shall I up my HRT dose (1 pump of oestrogel and 200 mg utrogestan)?

Rainyblue · 06/04/2024 14:43

The chin hairs are awful, if I could pluck them out it wouldn’t be so bad, but they seem to like making a painful red lump or spot under the skin until finally after a few days they emerge and I can pluck them out. The skin on my chin is now red and patchy.
The chin hairs are often white or grey so I don’t think the Lumea would work.

When I was taking progesterone orally my skin went awful and always had good skin and was getting black single hairs on side of face and skin so dry so changed progesterone (utrogestrone) taking it vaginally and skin back to normal thank god. But also found out had underactive thyroid and that makes the skin so dry. Once you get hrt dose right for you it makes a difference to the skin as hormones get balanced out again.

I get electrolysis once a month and pluck out the strong ones as they emerge in the meantime. I find the car mirror best for that! I always keep the tweezers close at hand. I did get itchy skin in the early days..not on my face but in various places like under my arms but it has eased. I am not on HRT. I never had a spot in my life , even as a teenager so the odd spot was a shock but that has eased too. It's like everything goes crazy but for me, anyway it soon eased.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/04/2024 07:39

I use a dry razor on my chin and upper lip, every day. It’s the only way I have ever managed to keep it in check (lifetime issue for me), I do pluck them sometimes which gives me a week or so hair free, but the top lip is way too painful.

I get really sore little spots like cysts and I still don’t think there’s anything better than sudocrem for them.

I am terrible with skincare so I use a Liz Earle cleanser, toner and moisturiser which I remember to use a few times a week and an SPF.
