As the title says really.

Got given this instead of Utrogestan at the pharmacy yesterday not tried it yet but a quick google suggests it is a cheaper alternative.

Only search results on here are in conception topic.

Anyone else? How are you finding it? Sorry forgot to add for HRT? Thanks

This is just the non branded version, it’s still progesterone. The only difference is the coating the tablet comes in. Should be ok.

Silvermoonsnowflake · 16/01/2024 17:58

Thanks that’s my thoughts too - also wondering if anyone else has actually had and tried it as the new improved Oestrogel is supposed to be the same as the old version as well!

AfterTheSummer · 16/01/2024 17:58

It's the same, just not branded.

Silvermoonsnowflake · 16/01/2024 18:03

Thanks will update the thread when I have actually tried it myself!

I haven’t found it the same😞 and have checked - the fillers are different. Been on it fora couple of months now and have had a few episodes of period like pain and spotting. 11 years since menopause and been on Utrogestan for 3 years with no
problems! I have discovered from the menopause matters forum that other women have had the same issue…

Silvermoonsnowflake · 22/01/2024 12:06

😕 oh no!! I haven’t started on it yet - will check out MM, thank you!

Can Gepretix be used as vaginal suppositories like Utrogestan?

EmmyBobs · 02/02/2024 06:06

Hi I’ve been on Gepretix after my usual Utrogestran not available. Really interesting reading this thread.
I’ve been having break through bleeds, pmt symptoms… all over the place really… I have put it down to these new pills as nothing else has changed. I had no
problems with Utrogestan. 😕

vjg13 · 02/02/2024 07:53

Are there shortages of Utrogestan again?

JinglingSpringbells · 02/02/2024 08:12

Utrogestan
Sunflower oil, refined
Soybean lecithin
Gelatin
Glycerol
Titanium dioxide
Purified water

Gepretix
Grape seed oil
Soya bean lecithin
Capsule shell:

  • Gelatin
  • Glycerol
  • Titanium dioxide (E171)

The only difference is one has sunflower oil and the other grade seed oil.

I was given it at a pharmacy recently, without any explanation. As I was paying for it as a private prescription I queried it, and they swapped it, at the same time, to Utrogestan without question. I think they were paying less and probably charging me the price for Utrogestan (because I'd already paid when they swapped it.)

What is the advantage of Gepretix over Utrogestan?

Pharmacologically they are identical - they both contain micronised progesterone in a body identical version of the hormone. Gepretix is a branded generic version and offers a more cost-effective version of the Utrogestan brand. It also offers an alternative when the utrogestan is out of stock.

JinglingSpringbells · 02/02/2024 08:18

On the Independent Pharmacy website, a pack of 30 Gepretix is £4 cheaper than Utrogestan.

Snackajack100 · 20/02/2024 18:07

Hi I've just been given hrt gepretix and gel. Can someone help as I don't understand when do I actually take it? I've got to take 2 tablets at night with the gel as well. Do I take first dose on the day I bleed or is it 15 days after I bleed?
Really confused.

Sarvanga38 · 20/02/2024 18:07

I’ve had it for a while, no issues.

menopours · 20/02/2024 18:47

Ive been given Zentiva, assume this too is a generic utrogestan

AliMon · 10/05/2024 13:30

I have been taking Gepretix for a couple of months now ( instead of Utrogestan )
I find it makes me sleep incredibly deeply- almost feel like I've been drugged. I'm going to request that I be prescribed Utrogestan again.

I've been using it vaginally assuming it's the same as utrogestan.

vjg13 · 10/07/2024 01:47

I think so, as far as I know it’s a generic version.

You might not be able to request it.
My understanding is that it's being supplied as it's a generic version and is cheaper for the NHS by a few pence per tablet.

I pay for mine on a private prescription and when the pharmacy gave me Gepretix I queried it- I didn't know why they'd given it to me. The swapped it immediately. I then found out they had charged me for Utrogestan but were trying to palm me off with a cheaper version.

Having said that, they are identical. But they weren't charging me less!

Nd1969 · 22/08/2024 13:18

I’ve felt lower in mood since being swapped from utrogestan to gepetrix anyone else felt this way ? Really getting me down

I'm sorry you feel down but the drugs are identical. It's just that one is about 10p per tablet cheaper.

On this thread or another one, I listed the info from the patient leaflet. The ingredients are 100% the same.

There is also this online

There could be other reasons for how you feel such as needing more estrogen if you're in peri.

Lozzy1968 · 04/09/2024 23:15

I have also been prescribed Gepretix instead of utrogestan and my scalp has become very itchy and I’ve developed a hivey rash around my neck. I did not associate the two initially but it has started with this medication and I subsequently read this can be a side effect. Also my sleep has been impacted, waking in night and not getting back to sleep

pinkfleece · 04/09/2024 23:17

I think micronised progesterone came off patent recently so now there will be loads of brands
Same medicine.

Prettyinorange · 05/09/2024 06:23

I’ve had this for two months now and it doesn’t agree with me.

Never had breast tenderness and horribly sore nipples in all the years I’ve taken utrogestan. I’ll be asking to return to utrogestan.

It' s just the name that is different. The ingredients are absolutely the same.
TBH you might not be able to state a preference as Utrogestan is slightly more expensive (priced by the manufacturer) and the NHS is trying to save money.

Edited

I’ll be asking for it anyhow, I’d like to go back to utrogestan for two months to see if these new symptoms disappear.

I understand about the nhs wanting to save money but not if some people for whatever reason can’t tolerate a cheaper drug.

Someone further up thread said the ingredients were not identical.
