Travelling with HRT

I’ve got a few upcoming short travels to European destinations and I’m planning to take a small backpack only. I’m using oestrogel (80 gram), does anyone know if it is classed as fluid and if yes will the security checks let me through?

Gel is a fluid, carry the prescription and it must be in the original packaging. It may be asking your gp if they can sell you a travel sized bottle.

Yes it is classed as a liquid but it's also under 100ml and a personal medicine so you'll be fine. A couple of airports are also now trialling getting rid of the 100ml rule.

There isn't a smaller bottle available.

It's only 80mls so it's not an issue.

It's not worth trying to decant it because it can evaporate (the alcohol base) when it's not in the original pump.

Thank you - my concern is that it doesn’t fit in the standard small plastic bag that they tell you to fit all your fluid in…but I’m hoping they’ll not tell me to leave the hrt behind!

Medication is exempt from the 100ml small plastic bag rule. Keep it in its box so that you have the prescription sticker on it - they will look at that and check the name matches your passport.

@HoHoHoliday brilliant, thank you!

@Letsbepractical Forgot to say - as you go through security and you are putting your stuff in the tray to be scanned, flag it up then. Just catch the attention of the security staff and say I've got some medication which is over 100ml. They can check it then. So much easier/quicker that way than if you just put it in the tray and wait for them to notice.
I am currently travelling monthly for work with my oestrogel and have got this process nailed now 😁 So long as your bottle or the packet has your prescription sticker on you are fine.

@HoHoHoliday It's not over 100mls.

The pump contains 80gms and is 80mls.

Maybe that's what you meant to post?

I travelled out of Heathrow a couple of weeks ago and had my standard bottle of oestrogel in its original box with my name on it, in a plastic bag with a copy of my prescription. The bag didn't quite close as the box was too big. I had a separate plastic bag with my other liquids.

I checked with someone at the start of the security queue and they said that was the right way to do it. I just put them both in the plastic tray to go through the machine and no one asked me anything about it at all.

Have a good trip.
