Menopause and vertigo?

Teasie123 · 14/01/2024 06:13

I've been getting bouts of dizziness, feeling sick, finding it hard to focus and sometimes even slurring iny speech. On top of this, I'm not sleeping, feeling anxious and am really sensitive too. Have a doctor's appointment next week. Anyone else got this? My kids thought I was drinking!!

Could be menopause as hormonal changes can wreak havoc with us females. However, it's best to get checked out by your GP. Symptoms can be part of menopause but not heard of slurred speech being a symptom before.

How old are you?

Teasie123 · 14/01/2024 06:33

Am 47 this year... feel like I'm choking when I'm like that too

Do you have heavy periods?

Teasie123 · 14/01/2024 08:10

Well I've missed one or two and then it comes like nothing I've ever had before. It's crazy

could well be anaemia then. I had low ferritin and the symptoms made me think I had MS, so definitely see the GP.

Theinnocenteyeballsinthesky · 14/01/2024 08:27

This is a very common peri menopause/menopause symptom. I had it when my hormones specifically progesterone were out of whack. Sorted my progesterone dose and it was fine. Sympathies OP it’s really horrible

Ask for b12 blood test. Do NOT take b12 tablets beforehand as they will give a false healthy result. Obtain the blood test results from your GP and post the exact number on a b12 Facebook page for feedback. You may need b12 injections but the NHS often fail to deliver these, their boundary for b12 treatment is lower then rock bottom.

@BlingBlingTing so glad you told me about the vitamins ! I bought vitamin b complex yesterday. Thanks a mill.🤗

@Theinnocenteyeballsinthesky ,do I mean vertigo can be common or just my symptoms? 🤗

@Teasie123 dizziness, loss of balance, anxiety, insomnia, feeling emotional are all very common. Worth talking to your GP or practice nurse to rule out anything else but it is very common in menopause 😊

What causes menopause dizziness?

Lots of things can be the cause of dizziness and light-headedness during the menopause. Hormonal changes have been linked to feeling dizzy. Reviewed by a GP.

Could be meno.

Some of the symptoms I had before going on hrt were very weird and scary.

Felt whole body vibrating, dizziness, blurred vision, inability to remember words and names, waking up every 15 minutes overnight like some sort of torture,

Teasie123 · 14/01/2024 09:23

definately get a full blood test.

My doctor told me all my symptoms were down to peri and suggested I have counselling - the specialist looked at my bloods and said my many symptoms were down to under active thyroid.

My mum had terrible vertigo and vision abnormalities when she went through menopause. It hasn’t hit me yet but I’m prepared. Yes it can be a symptom. Obviously still get checked out, and take all of your vitamins like B, D, iron, calcium, magnesium.

AnnieCookWriter · 19/01/2024 10:58

I've experienced a little bit of vertigo. At least I think that's what it is... just a very random dizziness when I stand up quickly, and a kind of 'shuttering' noise in my ears, like a door being slammed several times in very quick succession. I'm seeing my doctor in a couple of weeks, and hope to discuss it then. If it turns out to be related to menopause, I will report back in here. There is a tendency to blame a lot of symproms on the change, but posters in here are absolutely correct in encouraging everyone with symptoms of discomfort of ANY kind to get to the GP and rule out anything underlying that might need to be identified and treated that isn't connected.

Lucythecleaner · 28/02/2024 23:26

I've just searched about vertigo on here because I've been feeling exactly the same.
It's making me so anxious. I've felt really spaced out and like I'm living behind a pane of glass for about two years, now I'm getting frequent headaches and really bad vertigo. I just don't feel with it at all.
No energy and completely exhausted all the time. I'm hoping this is perimenopause rather than something more sinister. I'm 45 in a couple of months.

ageingdisgracefully · 28/02/2024 23:30

Crikey! I had a bout of vertigo (thankfully only the once) and had no idea that it was a symtom of the menopause! Every day's a school day...

Angrymum22 · 28/02/2024 23:44

The symptoms you are experiencing are quite common during menopause for various reasons but they can be symptoms of other health problems.

Make sure you go through all of them with your GP who can rule out more serious causes.
