HRT - Utrogestan - empty stomach

Wondered who else is taking Utrogestan and what your routine is for taking it.

It says at night on an empty stomach and I've found that hard from day 1! It's like I want to eat more because I can't.

What does empty stomach mean exactly? It says 2 hours after food - if I've had 1 biscuit does that count?

Last night, I took it at 5.30 because I had a work event and I'd had a biscuit at 3 and knew if I didn't eat before I went out, I could manage to not eat before I got home. That's not nighttime though really is it!

Keen to know how others manage their routine to accommodate.

Don't over think it! I take it at bedtime, I keep them on my bedside table and take it just before I turn my light out.

Yep, same. If I've eaten something it actually makes me sleep better due to increased absorption.

Same as PP -I didn’t even realise it’s meant to be taken on an empty stomach but I try not to eat after 8pm anyway so it works out well.

I take it at bedtime. I do make a conscious effort not to eat at least two hours before. I had a big supper once and felt felt sick in the night after taking the utrogestan (this could have been a coincidence but I haven’t done it since)

I literally take mine before I get into bed at night. I keep the packet beside my bed.

Same here. Take as get into bed. That's usually at least 2h since dinner. I might have had a biscuit and a cuppa. Don't think it matters that much. Easier to remember this way on my bedside table.

@Newmum738 If it's taken with food (that means within 2 hours of eating) more is absorbed. For some women it means an increase in symptoms (maybe a bit of grogginess in the morning.)

You shouldn't take it during the day because it can cause dizziness within around 30 minutes ( lowering of blood pressure.)

That' s why the 'bedtime' advice is there.

MILLYmo0se · 10/01/2024 08:17

You don't really need to take it on an empty stomach. The general advice is 2 hrs after food when you start taking it as a full stomach can increase the effect and you could be a groggy next morning, for most women if it does have that effect it wears off after using it for a while.
I take it as I get into bed, eating doesn't really make a difference with me though if I had a big carby dinner late in the evening the utrogeston would increase the 'food coma' effect in the early days of taking it

As soon as they say don't eat, I can't stop!
