Christ alive it feels like it will never end.

I mean, in terms of "symptoms of menopause it's ok to chat about" I've probably got brain fog off the back of the bleeding. But the bleeding itself, my god, for me that's the main thing.

I went through that during peri. I can’t tell you how wonderful it was when it finally stopped and I went into proper menopause!

Otalask · 05/01/2024 22:30

Oh my god I am praying for that day to come. I even had three months bleed free, thought that was it and now BAM here I am again wearing two pairs of knickers plus pads on each. I hate it so much.

On waiting list for hysterectomy, have been for nine months. NINE FUCKING MONTHS.

Would they let you take contraception until then?

I've gone back on the mini pill and it's hevan. The pain and bleeding before was unbearable.

Bookworm1111 · 05/01/2024 22:32

YES! I had four months of no blood then BAM, it was back. Now I'm on HRT I'm assuming I'm having a withdrawal bleed after my progesterone cycle. So bored of it. I want it done!

Bookworm1111 · 05/01/2024 22:33

And it's also so much heavier than previous periods. Four days resembling Niagara Falls.

EBearhug · 05/01/2024 22:33

Yes. Day 16. I think the flooding's stopped, if not the actual bleeding.

DillDanding · 05/01/2024 22:35

My only symptom of menopause was the frigging bleeding. My periods were every 28 days, as they’ve always been, but became catastrophically heavy. I was passing clots the size of my palm. I couldn’t go from sitting to standing without what felt like a haemorrhage. It debilitating and I was severely anaemic.

The only thing that has sorted me out is a Mirena coil.

Otalask · 05/01/2024 22:38

The mirena made me murderous. Everything I've done after that hrt wise was a mitigation of its effects. Until I finally got on a semi even keel Or So I Thought. Until I started once again bleeding so much I'm marking furniture. So, so, so fucked off.

I know it doesn't feel like it now but it will end. I was the same as you. I wasn't sure how much more I could take but haven't had a period in many months now (hoping this is it!).

Seems common to have some killer heavy ones before they stop for good. My pattern was first went to every other month, then one every 3 months or so, then I think I just had 2 about 6 months apart. The every 3 months part lasted a year or so. So I think you're on the final stretch.

jollywhite · 05/01/2024 22:43

Try it with daily warfarin added in for good measure. Trust me. You don't know the meaning of a heavy period. :( Would love it just to be the menopause on its own.

Otalask · 05/01/2024 22:43

Oh god I hope so. I am 52 ffs !!! In another (ie the world I grew up in) life I'd be eight years off retirement but as it is I've got to go on putting up with this horseshit while smiling for years to come.

Totally. Every month I rage that the bastard things are still happening! On HRT but still regular periods and very heavy. So fed up.

AlisonDonut · 05/01/2024 22:46

I stood up getting out of bed on one of these days once. The blood ran down my thighs, legs and pooled in my slippers and then ran onto the carpet. It was horrendous. I had to strip off, and use the sheets to try and soak it up and walk on them to get to the bathroom and go straight into the shower. Everything got washed that day.

That sounds so familiar.

Theearthisntflat · 05/01/2024 22:48

I had such heavy periods, off for 10 days on for 4 weeks, that pattern was horrendous.. Now I've had one period in June and one in October which wasn't worth having. Now I'm just 'watching and waiting' ... Don't you just love being a woman!?

Orla75 · 05/01/2024 22:55

Yes yes me !
Im Bleeding for 7 days- it’s passing through my ultra tampon on the the pad and sometimes down my legs .
Then the few days after a horrible dry itchy vag . I beg for the end of periods ! 36 years is enough surely? .

Yes. It is uncontrollable. Every movement has a five stage cleanup and every part of the cleanup starts the whole thing off again.

If I say yes to an in-person meeting that lasts more than two hours I double up on pads and knickers. Anything more than four hours forget it.

I am drowning in blood.

I feel I'd be excellent at cleaning up a murder scene, though. I am really good at getting blood stains out.

I used to call mine Red Niagara. It once started just as I changed into my dress to go & be Matron of Honour at a wedding. Aaaargh!

All I can say is, living without periods is fantastic.

Nsky62 · 06/01/2024 00:37

Far worse symptoms, I had severe bloating and sweats, I know it’s unpleasant.
I now have Parkinson’s mid stage no cure, keep pushing for hysterectomy

ouch44 · 06/01/2024 00:58

I used to have terrible flooding. Also started being peri early so still had young children! Luckily the flooding didn't go on too long.

GP should be able to prescribe Tranexamic Acid. I didn't know this at the time but did take ibuprofen which does slow bleeding after awhile. Wish period pants had existed back then. Still remember a terrible day out when we met up with in-laws and spent the first half hour in the toilet. So embarrassing!
