Ovestin side effects

Hi all, started using Ovestin earlier in the week and just wanted to ask what it felt like for other women in the early stages of use? I have burning and it is increasingly sore as the day goes on. I'm happy to keep going for the 2/3 weeks needed to do initial loading but have nagging feeling I may be allergic. Any easy way to know the difference? Thanks.

I didn't feel any reaction at all, either with the original dose a day or the weekly maintenance one. Is there anything on the leaflet about side effects - if this is day 1 that does sound worrying? Are you prone to thrush - might it exacerbate that?

I gave it up as it gave me thrush all the time

The leaflet gives general hrt symptoms but I know that it can cause discomfort initially as it gets to work. It's not like thrush though so will persevere for now.

It made me feel very sick and gave me a bad head ache.

Just to say I’m going to give up with ovestin , it seems to have given me thrush , yet again.

For those who have stopped using, have you tried Vagifem instead?

@Sunset88 There may be something in the cream that is a slight irritant. But most women do find that after a short time, this subsides. It can create a burning type feeling but as the skin thickens, with the treatment, this tends to go away.

Vagifem is a slightly different type of estrogen and slightly stronger. It stays where it's put so it won't 'leak' like Ovestin. However, it's no good if you have any external soreness as it doesn't reach those bits!

JinglingSpringbells · 21/12/2023 13:41

Also, you don't have to stick to every day for 14 days. That's a guide to promote healing, but you could experiment with alternate days. There aren't any hard and fast rules. The daily for 14 days is to maximise the changes taking place, but less often will still work- just takes a bit longer.

Thanks @JinglingSpringbells that's really helpful. I'll persevere for the 2 weeks and see where we are, it's more uncomfortable than anything else. Wouldn't feel surprised if I am sensitive to one of the ingredients as I usually do react to glycerine.
