Oestrogel - where to put it?

ilovebrie8 · 27/11/2023 20:03

Am using the gel now after not getting on with the patches.

I am on 3 pumps with 1 utrogestan pill.

I’ve been rubbing it into my inside upper arm and inside thighs.

I read it’s supposed to be on the length of your arm from shoulder to wrist…
anyone know which is best?

Thanks 😊

The doc told me inside of thighs - have been using Oestragel like that for the past couple of years. Never heard of putting it on one's upper arms?

Cismyfatarse · 27/11/2023 20:10

I do thighs / arms etc. Makes no difference.,

DramaAlpaca · 27/11/2023 20:12

I do thighs.

IHearTheMermaidsSinging · 27/11/2023 20:12

Yes, on the outside of the upper arms, and inside of the thighs.

PeanutAndBanana · 27/11/2023 20:13

I can't see what difference it makes if it's on a limb. Prepared to be told I'm wrong. I have an irrational dislike of it so often do calves which I find less unpleasant.

fizzybootlace · 27/11/2023 20:14

The leaflet says inner mid thighs, outer arm and shoulder. I put it on inner thighs, don't go too high up.
Although GP said pat it on rather than rub in, as lots go into your hands when you rub, which then gets washed off when you wash your hands.

WolfFoxHare · 27/11/2023 20:18

I do inner thighs. My consultant said it’s better below the waist. Inner arms runs the risk of it getting on your boobs which isn’t advised.

Stargazer46 · 27/11/2023 20:34

I do a pump on each thigh in the morning then 1 pump between both arms at night. I found 3 pumps in 1 go was too much to absorb without rubbing it in. Been told you shouldn’t rub it in but not that it matters whether you apply it to thighs or arms.

Sparehair · 27/11/2023 20:36

I do inner thighs. They are quite chunky so I don’t run out of space. Only time I’ve been grateful for them.

WhatNoUsername · 27/11/2023 20:40

I do outer arms and inner thighs.

You shouldn't put it on inner arms as you are not supposed to get it on your boobs.

I think there is some evidence that it's best on fatty areas, not just skin and bone (ie calf.)

The leaflet gives details- upper outer arm, shoulders, inner thigh.

You do have to rub it in to an extent as the absorption rate is affected by how thickly/ thinly it's spread.

I've had a bit of a nightmare with HRT as can't absorb the patches and now don't seem to be absorbing the oestrogel. My GP has just told me that you should rotate the site you apply it too as your skin can stop absorbing after a while. He also said that the area should be about the size of A5 paper and not too thinly. I'm applying to the backs of my knees. If anyone has any other suggested places I'd welcome some advice.

MirandaWest · 04/12/2023 14:50

I’ve been putting mine on my inner thighs for the past 2.5 years.

ilovebrie8 · 04/12/2023 14:59

I’ve been doing inner arms and inner thighs…think I need to change to outer arm.
I’ve also been spreading it quite thinly …it’s guesswork 🙄

I think it may only happen to some people so you must be fine with the same place;

Judrop123 · 04/12/2023 15:25

I keep being told different things. Going slightly insane with it!

I'm not sure there is any science about changing where it's applied . This seems to be a bit of a myth and I've never read anything like that in years of using it. Happy of course to know otherwise!

The original leaflet (going way back when) used to suggest an A4 size sheet because it said do it across the size of the leaflet (which was like a folded sheet of A4.)

The leaflet in the pack is very useful because it does explain where to apply. Outside upper arms, or inner thighs.

I'm pretty sure I've read that it's absorbed more by fat cells, which is why patches are stuck on the bum or hips.
