Levosert......and HRT

Hi. I had a Mireba coil and when it expired I had a Levosert inserted - the dose etc is all the same.

I've been getting sone symptoms abs the gp suggested hrt. The mirena is licensed for the progesterone part so normally it would just be the added Oestragel but as the Levosert isn't licensed she's prescribed me Utrogestan

I'm just wondering if anyone has had a 3 at the same time and if you found any issues?

@Blushingm Why did you change to this from the Mirena? Are there any benefits? Does the one you have last slightly longer?

I'm not 100% sure but I think GPs can prescribe off-licence in some instances and private consultants certainly can (as they are taking responsibility for the meds.)

Personally, I'd be wary of using both because each can have side effects and you may get a double whammy.

You can always try it and see, but I'd be tempted to challenge your dr and sk why it can't still be used off-licence. If they won't do that (and this will be a patenting/ licensing thing, not a medical decision) you could consider seeing a private gynaecologist for another opinion and the 'okay'.

I had the Levosert as they didn't have a mirena in the room - the dose of levogestrel is the same in both - the length of time it lasts is the same too. It was 3 years ago so HRT didn't cross my mind at the time

Okay- but what's your way forward now?

I don't really want to go and change my coil unless I have to

Maybe try the capsules and see? I've never been someone who the pill or coil has affected very much in terms of my mood so maybe I won't get side effects?

If I do I might look in to seeing if I can get my coil swapped for a mirena but unless it's clinically necessary I'm not sure they'd agree?
