worried about being seriously

So i've finally decided to make a GP appointment to discuss a list of symptoms I think might be peri.

For about a year i've been having

  • hair loss
  • periods becoming erratic. As in sometimes bleeding/spotting for weeks the. 1/2 days proper flow, then stops. Sometimes only one day bleeds. Never been like this before
  • Brian fog . I can literally lose my train of thought mid sentence, its generally getting worse
  • disturbed sleep
  • weight gain despite no change in eating habits/activity levels. Seems to be impossible for me to lose any weight

I'm worried i might not be taken seriously because of my age (I'm 38)

Anyone been through similar for any tips?

Sounds a lot like it might be peri to me. Mine started around 38ish, took them nearly two years to properly diagnose it though.

Might I suggest you ask your GP to do some blood tests to rule out anything else like thyroid issues or anaemia etc, and they can test your hormone levels all at the same time. You will probably need to push for it though, as many doctors don't give a shit about possible menopausal symptoms.

It does sound peri, you could do with your thyroid checking at this age, and iron too.
You probably won’t get anywhere with HRT on the NHS, so I’d suggest looking at supplements to help symptoms at this stage, and look at going private.

Thanks both.

Private may be an option, so will explore that if NHS is no good

My GP in the UK was adamant that as I didn't have hot flushes then it wasn't peri or menopause. Regardless of the numerous other symptoms I had, and the fact that although I didn't have sudden hot flushes I had a generally elevated higher temperature, and having symptoms at the same age as my older sisters had etc. I normally feel the cold but I was walking around in tshirts while everyone else was rigged up.

I had to really argue the point with him to get HRT. But... I was prescribed the separate oestrogen and progesterone tablets and whenever I started the progesterone tablets it brought on a period so I ended up having way more periods and it really messed with me. In the end I had a mirena coil for that progesterone and patches for the oestrogen for awhile but then just ended up stopping with the oestrogen.
