Thinning hair - what helps

I'm 40. Have a number of peri symptoms. One of which is thinning hair. What can I do to help the growth & thickness? It's always been on the finer side.

Not sure about hair thinning and menopause specifically but have been told using baby shampoo and conditioner is great for thinning hair

You could try a nail/hair supplement

Get your ferritin levels checked. Mine were too low for hair growth but taking Ferrograd C has made a huge difference. It's also worth noting that the NHS minimum for normal ferritin levels is too low for hair growth. Mine was 24ug/L, which is considered "normal" but for hair it needs to ideally be between 80-100ug/L.

Echo what @CheeseMuffin has said - you need to be sure it is peri and not iron depletion.

Collagen is meant to be good for this. I've just started taking it so can't comment yet

I don’t know which of these is working but I’ve been using collagen, regaine foam and the pita champo range and have SO much regrowth!

Plantur 39. My hair had really thinned after losing my Dad to cancer, and on top my hormones are all over the place. It did take about 3 months to really see the benefit, but I'm really pleased with the results.

It's designed for women over 40.

Make sure you’re diet has enough protein.
Maybe iron and biotin supplements too.

I'm pretty much post-menopausal but my hair has recently started thinning again - the amount of hair fall is alarming and my parting is looking very wide! Could be hormones, could be a period of high stress at work, but I've just started taking biotin supplements again.

Started a week ago, and in the shower I've just had I noticed about half as much hair fall compared with the last 2 months.

I also lost a lot of hair after covid in 2020, took biotin then as well and it soon came back.

If your on a budget try pantene root awakener. And a good hair vitamin supplement. Root awakener saved me.. it took a couple of bottles before I could see tiny hairs. It's £5 at boots . Sometimes if you have a boots card they do a discount.

I suffered hair loss and thinning due to menopause - lots of hair shedding when washing or brushing and thinning round temples .
Started to take biotin supplements recommended by hairdresser and noticed a big difference after few months.

I'm forty and started using a bioidentical progeaterone cream with great effect for my hair loss.

Oestrogen dominance causes hair loss and along with spotting after sex and heavy periods I was pretty sure that high oestrogen was the issue.

My GP wanted to give me the mini pill but it has an androgenic hormonal profile which would have likely made my hair loss ten times worse so I bought some bioidentical progesterone cream, been using it for a year in the second half of my cycle and my hair is probably 50% thicker now.
