accepted that I’m menopausal now, what supplements are hoot for “this age” thinking collagen but not sure what else might be good?

I think omega 3 is good for every age. Vitamin D in winter. I think a lot of people are low in iron without realising it.

Maybe the first question to ask is what are you trying to achieve with a supplement?

The only supplement advised for everyone is Vit D over the winter months.
If you eat a healthy diet, you don't need any supplements.

You can get Omega 3 from green leafy veg and oily fish. Omega 3 is mainly beneficial to arteries and brain health but there's no proof that using supplements helps.

The more important thing is to have the right balance of Omega 3 to Omega 6 (and most people have too much Omega 6 which is in sunflower oil / spreads/meat)

I’m 55 and take calcium (I had a bone density scan and calcium was recommended by GP). I also take an iron supplement drink called Floradix which also has lots of the B vitamins in.

I agree with this, you adjust the balance by cutting out omega 6, not supplementing omega 3-

Get rid of veg oil, margarine and processed food

There is increasing evidence against taking calcium because it can clog the arteries. Most GPs don't know this as it's pretty specialised and only being researched recently.

You need 700-1000mgs of calcium a day .It's not hard to get this from dairy, green veg, oily fish and pulses like chick peas.

Thanks all, not sure what I'm looking to improve, just keep hearing people taking things like collagen and retinol and worried I was doing damage by doing nothing! I do take vitamin D already

Sounds like you really need to post this in Style and Beauty for tips on menopausal skin.

Vit D
Magnesium (gly)
Krill oil / omega
B complex
Collagen
Whilst anecdotal evidence may say supplements don't work, everyone I know that takes them swears they do.
Maybe get a blood test to check your levels

BatshitCrazyWoman · 02/11/2023 05:19

I'm on HRT 🙂 but I take a vitamin D and K2 spray daily, and a B complex as my folate was low. That's it.

ThelmaBorden · 02/11/2023 19:47

What Moonshine says, plus if you are suffering, Oil of Evening Primrose capsules
We have discovered, well actually recommended to us, NaturesPlus, Gold they are expensive. My friend gave me a bottle for my birthday, so starting me off on them, 30 caps a months supply. It took a couple of weeks before they kicked in, now I feel much better, revitalised.
Also vitK and D3 from them.
I had vitD white tablets from the doctor, contain aspartame, bad stuff, avoid.
