Falling asleep at 8pm each evening

I'm hoping someone can offer me some advise with a problem I have which is driving me mad. I've gone through the menopause (I'm 54). What is happening is when I sit on the sofa around 8pm each evening I fall asleep within 5-10 mins. The next thing I know is I take at 3am and can't get back to sleep. I simply can not stay awake once I sit down and as I've been standing/walking/working/running around all day I simply can't stay standing up/active til 10pm/bedtime. Any ideas?

Would recommend blood tests at the doctor, you may have an underactive thyroid or similar.

Thank you - I've already had blood tests and been told everything is normal :-)

You will have to reset your body clock.
There's no other way.

Do you live alone? Is there anyone in the house who can (literally) keep you awake?

But if you are really tired then it's worth thinking about HRT.

Can you go for a walk at 8 to keep you awake and hopefully freshen up til 10 or so? 8-3 is a pretty decent amount of sleep (I’m jealous!) just the wrong timing ?

I just go to bed at 8pm and fall asleep. Why would you sit on the sofa when you could be lying in a lovely cool bed on soft pillows <counts hours till bedtime>

I have total exhaustion so just get the teens fed and then head upstairs. I need loads more sleep now I'm on HRT.

I often have a 10 minute catnap at about 9pm.... it's not really an issue.
If we need sleep, then we should just take it.
