Positive Utrogestan stories please!

I'm on my first cycle of Oestrogel and Utrogestan, currently on day 11 of gel and due to take 12 days of Utrogestan starting next week...

I'm reading some absolute horror stories about progesterone intolerance and I'm really quite scared about how this is going to pan out. There's a thread on here with people's negative experiences, so I was hoping that there might be some people out there who are doing okay with it?!

I was also worried about this, but I only have good things to say about Utrogestan.
I am on my second cycle of 200 mg Utrogestan (12 days a month). My gynecologist prescribed progesterone without estrogen, as I'm still in peri; I'm not in the UK.
My first 12 days of Utrogestan were great! I take them vaginally and have no bad side effects. I sleep really well - sleep quality and quantity decrease have been some of my worst symptoms so far - and I was really looking forward to starting the Utrogestan again. I restarted last night and slept like a log, woke up refreshed and not at all drowsy.

Hi @Slavica that’s reassuring, thanks for sharing. Prior to being prescribed this, I’d read similar positive things about utrogestan giving people a great night’s sleep, it was only latterly that I read the negative stories

@newnamenellie Wonder why you have not been prescribed oestrogen as well I’m peri and am on both HRT. It must be difficult outside the UK.

@Slavica I’m by on oestrogen only patches and utrogestan for 12days a month and have not had any problems so far, Coming up for 3 months.

@Slavica thank you. Good to hear it’s working for you. 😊

For me it has helped hugely with sleep and anxiety, but aggravates my adult acne a bit.

Illegallyblonder · 20/10/2023 16:23

I find it fine too. I've been taking it for about 3 years. I take one a day vaginally and it's fine.

JinglingSpringbells · 20/10/2023 16:31

Please don't believe that ALL women find it awful!

I've used it for 8-9 years now. I swapped from Norethisterone.

Yes, I have some side effects but most women have some with most of the progestogen.

I use it vaginally (this is off-licence in the UK but normal and licensed in Europe.)

This reduced the brain fog/ tiredness effects. The downside is it's a bit of a faff each night and does have some seepage as the capsules resolve.

Been on it for 2 years with Evorel patches - no side effects at all that I've noticed.

Movinghouseatlast · 20/10/2023 16:34

I had no side effects from it at all.

newnamenellie · 20/10/2023 16:36

Ah, thanks all. Time will tell I guess 🤞🏻

I'm on Evorel Sequi patches. Never had any side effects from the progesterone part. Had them for 2 years now. This really surprised me as I had dreadful mood swings with the POP birth control. Bad physical side effects with the implant back in 2015. Hubby had the snip due to this intolerance.

All I can say is my own natural progesterone reserve must be VERY low!

bengalcat · 20/10/2023 20:04

Been on HRT almost 10yrs - no side effects

Homebird8 · 20/10/2023 20:08

I've had no problems at all with utrogestan and I take it daily at bedtime. The sleep I get now is fantastic and the only little issue I've had is some spotting after flying from NZ to the UK and the 12 hour change in bedtime. This sorted itself out in a couple of days. I also have oestrogen patches.

Bellini12 · 21/10/2023 21:15

You sound so much like me. I’ve just started oestrogel and am a week into the utrogestan (2 tablets at bed time). I too can be sensitive to hormones and medication and was nervous about this part. I have to say I have just had the best 7 night’s sleep I’ve had in so long I can’t remember! I was waking 2-3 times a night and always exhausted.
I do however have the most sore boobs, but I’m hoping that will settle down. So all in all, the side effects haven’t been too bad.
