Anyone found a way to deal with profuse sweating during peri/menopause?

I’m on HRT but am just changing to a different type as mine isn’t working. I can cope with most of it but as soon as I exert myself in ANY way, mentally or physically I find I am drowning in sweat, it’s mortifying and so distressing. I have a fairly fine hair and a fringe which usually looks reasonable but once the sweating starts I’m a dripping mess. It’s awful and in a work context just unbearable. Anybody found a way to deal with it? I try to only wear light, cotton clothing, have found a good deodorant but am at a loss as to what else to try. If one more person tells me to wear layers, I may have to resort to violence!

Sage tablets helped quite a bit for me.

I'm now on HRT, but when in the throes of a very sweaty perimenopause I started taking Menopace plus Boots Red Clover and Soy Isoflavones (sp?) which made a big difference almost immediately. As pp says, Sage is meant to be effective too.

I've started wondering if sugar is causing my hot flushes and have been gradually cutting it out. It's also easier now its cooler weather.

Did they put you at the top end of your HRT in terms of dosage? They usually start you on a really low dose, assuming you've been put on to the maximum dose before switching, this hopefully means you are now on the highest dose of your new medication? If you are, hopefully you should start to feel the benefits over the next few weeks to 3 months.

I would also get your thyroid checked, if you haven't done that recently.

"Hacks":

In the morning, Salt of the Earth spray, including on upper body not just under arms.

A refreshing face spray, I really like the Kefir (green) one by Elemis for work, it has a fine mist and a natural smell. Spray face/neck as soon as you start feeling hot.

Wrists under cold tap, cold water on your face.

Dry shampoo for your fringe at work (if you don't want to grow it out or clip it to the side so it's off your face). Baptise or Living Proof is good because it's clear, but more expensive.

Cold water on a flannel and wipe the face and body over (at home or before bed).

Silk pillowcase.

A neck fan if it's mainly your face, the airflow helps dry the sweat quickly as well as giving a cooling effect!

My face gets really sweaty when I have hot flushes so I use this on my forehead, @JanicewasHere - put it on, let it dry, then put your normal moisturiser/makeup on over it. It's a little bit drying but an absolute lifesaver for when I don't want the humiliation of being visibly sweating - work presentations, meetings etc.

I find that my HRT helps a lot with it though so hopefully your symptoms will ease soon. Are you on oestrogen gel? I found that to be the most effective form.

Sage tablets helped quite a bit for me.

Second this. They saved me. I was unable to jave HRT and I suffered massively with hot flushes. I also used a cooling pillow which meant I could sleep

Sorry I haven’t responded - bloody menopause brain, forgot I’d posted 😊 Thank you so much for all these suggestions, I’m going to look it all up now, you are all brilliant!

I’ve just started a new type of HRT so have to start on a low dose but hoping it won’t be long before I can up it so hopefully that will help too.
