Really hot after starting Oestrogen and Utrogestan

Hi everyone, I started HRT last week. I'm 50 and have been in the menopause for a while now.

Over the last few years I've really suffered with body heat including facial sweating- this doesn't appear to be related to the menopause but could be! It's not a hot flush as I get those and they're something different.
It's really embarrassing and stopped me doing many things socially and professionally as I was just too embarrassed about the sweating.

So, I started HRT last week as those symptoms had gotten worse and my mood was really low. It's already helped with my mood and focus but my body heat seems to be increasing- I just wondered if anyone else has had this?
If I do anything at all other than sir down, I start to feel the heat throughout my body and I'll start to sweat. It's horrible. I've had to have a fan on me for the last week in the office just to try and prevent it happening.

Help.
TIA

You really can't make a call on HRT after a week.

It is possibly just your own symptoms getting worse at the same time as starting hrt.

When you say you have been in menopause for a while, do you mean your periods stopped over a year ago and you are post-meno now?

If you are, and using Utrogestan every day, be aware that all progestogens, even our own, raise body temperature.

So you might want to think about using HRT on a sequential cycle, (12 days for Utrogestan per month) rather than every day.

You might like to read about how diet and exercise can help with flushes etc too.

Hi @SweatyBettie50 i had similar and I spoke to my GP. In the end, I pushed to go back to the specialist. It might be worth doing that.
Progesterone made me very hot and I never got on with it.

Don’t assume it’s your symptoms getting worse, there can be side effects and knowing what they are is important.

Progesterone made me very hot and I never got on with it.

All HRT (unless women have no womb) has to include a progestogen of some kind.

Utrogestan = micronised progesterone is one sort.

The other- in patches and tablets- is Norethisterone.

Any, or all, can (and do) raise body temperature.

What you are describing @SweatyBettie50 does really sound like hot flushes, even the facial sweating.

The review on HRT dosage is after 3 months. In a week, nothing much will be changing so it's too soon to tell.

Give it a bit longer - at least 2 months.

Hi @JinglingSpringbells, I'm really interested in your knowledge of HRT. Where does it come from? Is it from lived experience or are you a professional?
Hope you don't mind me asking!

Hope you can get this sorted @SweatyBettie50, it's a challenging part of life. I'm waiting for a GP appt to talk to about HRT so I'm trying to get as much info as possible.

JinglingSpringbells · 12/10/2023 11:22

@Novicerunner It's a bit of both, as you're asking.

@JinglingSpringbells strange response, I take it you did mind me asking.
