Here for a hand hold really. I've been on oestrogen patches for about 2.5 years and my Mirena has been in for 5 years this month. I asked for an appointment to it changed and have had a message from my GP asking for me to pick up a prescription for Utrogestan and start using it immediately.
FFS, yes I should have read the leaflet that came with the Mirena better. But I didn't and tbh, why didn't this get picked up every time my hrt was reviewed?
So here I am , appointment to have the Mirena changed will be in November.
Can I take Ustrogestan 100 vaginally? Daily? Every other day?
Life is so bloody complicated at the moment, I really don't need another thing.

Is there a reason you can’t leave the mirena in until November. I know it’s 5 years for HRT but surely another few weeks won’t matter? It’s licensed for 6 years for contraception isn’t it?

Utrogestan is used vaginally in Europe but my GP said not licensed here. I have the mirena now but when I took utrogestan I took 1 x 100mg every night, alongside the mini pill with no break at all. I did find it made me massively bloated though.

The leaflet that came with the Mirena states 4 years for hrt and 5 for contraception (not needed). It will be staying put untill November.

When I had a review of my HRT last year I was told the coil is fine for HRT purposes for 5 years and for contraception for 6 years. It will be 5 years in December and as far as I can tell everything seems to be fine.

Must book an appointment to get it changed though.

Thank you! I found the new guidelines on SH:24. It is indeed now 5 years for hrt. And the replacement can stay in for 10 years!

That’s good news as I don’t think a few weeks of utrogestan would be beneficial, given that it takes weeks to get used to.

Personally I wouldn't bother with the utrogestan for a couple of weeks unless GP has reason to think your uterine lining has got too thick or something. I just can't see how a couple of weeks would make any difference.

This is the exact same situation I am in. GP contacted me 2 weeks ago to say my mirena has been in place 5 years. I have taken utrogestan 100mg capsules nightly since this contact. I have been feeling a bit bloated but attributed to my diet which has been a bit rubbish recently. I was concerned about progesterone levels from mirena. Its not clear - is it the same level as the capsule I am now taking? Sorry for jumping on your thread but I could have written it! I had decided to change my coil solely for contraception and continue with the capsule and patch. I don't know what the right answer is.

I don’t think you’ll need the utrogestan if you’re having another coil. I had the mini pill, patch & capsule before the coil. I’m convinced I had too much progesterone & it converted to testosterone, i’m sure I read that can happen.

I had so much rage & body hair, yet my head hair was like candy floss. I’m seeing the opposite now, body hair taking forever to grow & head hair much better.
