Flooding FFS!

Hi, I'm 46 and on HRT (Oestrogel and Ustrogen capsules) going wellish I think. Started my period yesterday and I am flooding through pads ridiculously fast. I use reusables which are super absorbent, but I've had to come home as I've soaked through an enormous pad, trousers and onto my chair in an hour. I can't use cups or tampons so am a bit stuck really, I can't take 2 days off every month. It's ridiculous.

I had a scan a year ago that showed no significant thickening of my uterus lining but this can't be normal, surely?

Just after any advice really

I'd see your GP. As you say it's not manageable as it is.

In terms of practical advice I've started wearing period pants as a back up.. I bought some very absorbent ones from the Cheeky brand which are padded all around the backside so really helps to contain leaks.

I think this might be an individual thing as I remember my mum having similar, as did my friend. I would be wanting to rethink doses of HRT I think. I wonder if you joined some specific Facebook groups you might get some excellent advice.

This happened to me. I was changing a pad then had flooded again by the time I reached the toilet door. It was taking over my life and I was feeling very weak through loss of blood.

I went to my GP who put me on tablets to reduce the blood flow but when I stopped taking them, it started again so in the end I had a hysterectomy at 43. Best thing I ever did - couldn't believe I'd got my life back.

How long have you been on HRT? I've noticed a slackening of the flooding, but I'm on about month 4 now.

In the meantime, if you can't use tampons, I'd invest in some super hardcore period pants - the kind that are like shorts. Use those WITH the pad. So the leakage goes into them and buys you some time.

I think you should see your GP. I had severe flooding for a few months and then it stopped and hasn't happened since so wasn't a concern but it did contribute to really low iron levels so needed a prescription for that.
