Progesterone

Just got prescribed progesterone to take on day 14.
Mid 40, so should be peri. Struggling with anxiety and depression, as well as ectopic heartbeats (I have some heart scarring). This hits on the days of the cycle estrogen drops and progesterone is high. I am starting to dread the second half of the cycle. Periods have become slightly irregular. I wanted HRT, but the Dr would not prescribe it until I miss a period.

Won‘t taking progesterone make things worse?

I started taking progesterone today (12 days per cycle). I am older than you, but still have my periods (they are closer together and lighter). My gynecologist said it could help my symptoms - insomnia, headaches, hot flashes. I have nothing to report yet, but you should know you're not alone.

Good luck @Slavica Hope it works well for you. I don’t want to start it as my symptoms seem to be related to too much progesterone/not enough estrogen.

Wave the NICE guidelines at them (depending on your symptoms). Mid 40s? If you're 45+ the guidance is very clear.

Thank you @BluebellsForest Very helpful. Will push for this. I am 45+
The progesterone was described as the natural option. Everything I said was ignored. I kept a diary of symptoms this month and the problem days precisely track the expected time for high progesterone.

I despair at the number of GPs who are still so ignorant on this. If they read a Daily Mail article on menopause and HRT many would be better informed than they are now. It's a disgrace.

I take my utrageston (progesterone) daily as a single tablet rather than a double tablet for half the month.
This was because the double dose was making me sluggish.
