Breakthrough bleeding on continuous

Hello
I’ve been on Estrogel two pimps and 100 Utrogestan continuous for about three months. Previously on cyclical. I’ve been getting a breakthrough bleed for two or three days each month. GP did say this would happen unless I took 200 Utrogestan. But that seems to contradict leaflet and opinion on here. Not sure what to do? A friend said maybe change to a different progesterone? Any thoughts?

Same here, my gp recommended Mirena coil to stop bleeding. I asked to try alternatives first. 200 Utrogestan continuous was suggested. I've been on this 3 days now. Would be interested to hear why this might not be a good idea.

Hi. I think there is the chance of a higher level of Utrogestan being more problematic with side effects. The dosage of progesterone for continuous is generally 100 not 200 l, so there must be a reason for that? As with all these things, it’s very individual. I’d be keen to hear from others who have experienced this and tolerated Utrogestan daily at 200mg. I also think the Mirena coil (which was offered to me) brings in a tidy income for GP practices, hence it being so heavily plugged. Cynical I know.

@Haapytogo thanks, I think you could definitely wait until you have been on continuous for six months before you need to make any changes as your body may still be adjusting. Strangely I was on the regime for 8 months before the bleeding started. All investigations have proved negative. So I am continuing with the 200mg per day for now. My GP did say there could be more side effects with the higher dose such as bloating and breast tenderness. I don't have bloating and the initial breast tenderness has all but gone so hopefully that doesn't come back. But I won't lie I do feel pretty tired so I will see how my body adjusts. The guidelines do seem to suggest upping the dose of progesterone if bleeding continues to be a problem. But I think for you, it's still too early to up your dose after three months.
