44 and periods gone, too early surely?

As subject says I’m 44, with 45 knocking on the door. For the last year I’ve hardly had any periods. Trying to recall my last proper period and can’t! Not had to buy San pro for ages. I used to have periods every 3 weeks and they were really heavy for the first couple of days.

I have some peri symptoms- night time sweats and sleep disturbances, changes in mood (but generally I keep this at bay with exercise), put on a bit of weight, and my skin is duller.

But none of these symptoms are overwhelming, just annoying.

Could this be menopause? Is it a bit early and surely I would have more symptoms? Or can periods just go from being heavy to hardly anything?

I was thinking of going to the GP but not really sure what I’m saying? Don’t feel like I need HRT but how do you know? Is it a good idea to go on it regardless?

Sorry loads of questions! Just been ignoring it really!

@MrInbetween, I've been considering typing out your post almost exactly for the past week!

I'm just on the wrong side of 45 and with no warning at all my periods have just vanished. I'm still getting all the period symptoms - bad temper, swollen breasts, abdominal pains, clumsiness - just with no period at the end of it to give any relief.

I've been worrying myself silly that with menopause I'd at least have some warning signs like irregular periods, or lighter/heavier periods, but other than insomnia (oh god, the insomnia) not a peep. It was like one month the tap just switched off and that was that.

It's so reassuring to know I'm not the only one, but I will be keeping an eye on my bones - thanks to other posters for sharing that - as unfortunately I can't have HRT.

Hello Jingling, thanks. I know it's every 3 years, but it's still a hell of a lot of money. NHS for free, yes, they were originally. Now, you can't get to see a GP or consultant for any reason.after being in agony for over a year,I went private for a couple of things. The Qus is Quantify able ultrasound.

OP - you’ve done a pregnancy test, right?

Well I’ve not had a period for about 13 months and still in my jeans. So I’m hoping pregnancy is not an issue!

However, what does worry me without periods how would I know if I was accidentally pregnant (that would NOT be welcome and I would want to terminate ASAP).

@Neverflywithoutateapot Sounds very familiar. The reason o wrote my post is because I was convinced my period was about to start - all the symptoms but then nothing!!!

And I hear you about the insomnia! For me I can get to sleep ok but I wake at 4 EVERY. SODDING. MORNING!!!! And there is not getting back to sleep.

Im bloody knackered!
