Progesterone for women who have had hysterectomy

The more I read up on my current symptoms, the more I am thinking that my oestrogen/progesterone/thyroxine is out of balance. I had a thyroid blood test about 9 months ago and was told it was "normal" but they never share numbers. I know that some women who have had a hysterectomy take progesterone even though they don't need it for the protection of the uterus lining, is there anyone on here in that situation who wouldn't mind sharing experience?

Its YOUR data. Just ask for the results. They have to give you them.

Not sure what your question is. Have you had a hysterectomy?

If so, you don't need progesterone.

Women who are not on HRT have no progesterone post-meno.

Yes I have had a hysterectomy. I have been reading that despite this, I may benefit from taking progesterone.

The progesterone idea is one of those things that is floating around the web. I don't know anyone in RL who is using it (there may be a few posters here who do.)
TBH most women find progesterone a PITA with side effects ( just read the threads here!)
And as it's the progesterone that is the hormone that appears to be the risk for breast cancer, it's best to avoid it.

(Women on estrogen only have fewer cases of BC than the general female population.)

A lot depends on what your symptoms are, how long you've been on hrt, the type and dose. I think most specialists would drill down into how you're feeling and suggest increasing the estrogen.

And you can absolutely get your thyroid results. The GP can't withhold that data.

Thank you @JinglingSpringbells. I have had several thyroid tests over the years and my dose gradually crept up to stabilise at 125mcg. Has been there for years - but I don’t have the thyroid symptoms of being permanently frozen and tired which I had without medication. I do think though that the hrt and thyroid has to be considered as a whole rather than two separate issues. Anyway. Feeling a bit better this morning so taking that as a positive.

I had a hysterectomy 8 years ago and I've been on a combined Hrt ever since but I had my hysterectomy for endometriosis so I was told that as it was wide spread I needed progesterone still to stop any complications from the lesions that were left on other organs.

It’s a weird balance after hysterectomy, isn’t it?

I was worried about lack of progesterone affecting my sleep, as my mirena was obviously removed, but it’s been good, though that may be because I’m still healing nine weeks after surgery and have been busier and more active than perhaps I should, so am sleepy at night.

I was told to up my oestrogen post-op as my 59-year-old ovaries would still have been producing some ovaries, bless them, before they were removed as well. In fact, I dropped it a bit as my fingers are a bit swollen and I wondered if it might help to reduce oestrogen (three pumps of oestrogel down to two).
