What happens to periods on HRT

I take HRT - Sandrena every day, with Utrogestan 14 days on 14 days off.
When I started taking it I was still having regular-ish periods (mostly short 23 day cycles, and light bleeding).
Since taking HRT my cycle is 28 days and even lighter bleeding.

I’m unsure whether HRT is kind of mimicking a period, or whether I’m still having periods.
Will my periods still cease at some point, as they would have done naturally due to menopause? Or does the HRT keep causing a monthly bleed? In which case how would you know if you’d gone through menopause.
Sorry if this is a stupid question!

You keep having a monthly bleed. You should only bleed the few days after you finish your utrogestan. It's not considered to be a period, but a bleed.

I have a regular period. Mine is actually heavier now I am taking the hrt. But not heavier than a normal period for me previously.

Thanks. So how do know whether you’ve been through menopause or not?

Ah that I don't know, sorry!

But I am not bothered when it happens as I plan to stay with the HRT for as long as I can, having seen the impact of not having it for me.

There's a guideline about you moving to continuous utrogestan after a certain amount of time, where you take one a day instead of two and only have three days off a month but I'm not sure when that point is.

There's another poster called jinglinghellsbells who has posted loads about utro and how it's used, you could search through her posts.

There a fb group if you have fb called totes merry peri. It sounds like a jokey fun one but actually they answer questions, refer to nice guidelines etc. you will get useful answers. Search the posts first as that's the first advice you will get. I've found it really useful.

So how do know whether you’ve been through menopause or not?

You won't, as long as you are using sequential HRT.

It's similar to women using The Pill. They have a withdrawal bleed each month. It's not a period as the Pill stop ovulation.

The medical guidance is that 80% of women are post menopause by 54.

You can try moving to continuous HRT (both hormones every day) which is a bleed-free sort, once you are 50 or had no periods (or very few) before you started HRT.

Otherwise, you're may get break through bleeding as the progesterone (100mgs) isn't enough to override you own cycle.

Going onto continuous bleed-free is a choice. Not all women like it, because daily progesterone has its side effects too.

Been prescribed Hrt- oestrogen gel & progesterone which I use/take both daily have been for 3 months- has helped immensely with a prolapse uterus apparently due to age and lack of oestrogen. I am waiting for a consultation to have a full hysterectomy (waiting list 14months!)
Started having periods and very tender breasts since starting Hrt, believe the periods should stop after approximately 4-6 months.
Anyone else had same experience?
