First hot flush(es) feel like??

I wonder if I had my first hot flush today... what do they feel like?
I was cold in the morning so put in a jumper and socks, but then little later I started to feel suddenly warm and had little sweat on the face. I took off the jumper and socks and then started to feel ok.

That could just as easily be because it got a little bit warmer towards lunchtime today as it could be a hot flush.

Just note when you get them, how frequently, whether it's cold or warm, etc.

Thanks I will. I guess just wondering are they normally "big" ones that like described, or maybe they start like this. I'm 44 so getting to the age that things start happening.

*described I mean, when you read menopause books etc

That's pretty much how I'm finding them. Although not easily relieved. Like a power surge and just instantly overheating. I'm noticing sugar and alcohol trigger mine badly

For me, it feels like when you’re just sat in an averagely warm room and you don’t feel hot or cold then all of a sudden you feel what (to me) feels like a blush creep up from your midsection and spread upwards and downwards from there and you feel clammy. And then it goes away just as quickly and you stop feeling clammy. Mine tend to last around 30 seconds to a minute.

It’s literally like you’re overheating but for no real reason (ie. The temperature never got hotter or you never exerted yourself).

Looking back, I started with these occasionally in my late 40s but tended to think I was coming down with a cold and was always glad when I never got a cold.

Interesting to hear experiences! I've make an appointment with GP (ofc it will be in a months' time 🙄) to discuss further with them as well.

Are you having other symptoms as well?

I think so -my period were getting less punctual and lighter (but painful) so GP put me on a pill earlier in the year. I had bloods done then but apparently they didn't "show" menopause, as I also asked if it's possible that I was entering into perimenopause.

For me it started not with a sweeping / moving whoosh but suddenly feeling warm like getting off the plane after landing in hit country but feeling quickly uncomfortably hot. Now it happens mainly when very suddenly stressed or panicking but otherwise much better now I'm in HRT

MrsFiddle · 25/08/2023 20:28

It's different for everyone. My friend had those sweep from toes to head ones and I could see her visibly get red. Mine was just a general feeling of living in a microwave for about 40 mins at a time. It moved on to breaking out in sweat buds at the back of my neck and that is when I started on HRT. I still am generally a warm person.

AInightingale · 26/08/2023 14:53

Does sound like it. I started to get mild flushes at 44 as you describe. I used to have lunch with my son in a particular cafe every week and I noticed it there as I usually kept my coat on - I started to feel uncomfortable with the layers. It was usually worse in the second half of my cycle, probably because oestrogen is falling then naturally. As time goes on, you start to notice it more, if you eat spicy food is another trigger!

Spanielsarepainless · 26/08/2023 16:10

Mine were agonisingly hot. And a friend had to pull over onto the hard shoulder of a motorway to remove her top as the horror was endangering her driving. Not that I advocate doing that, but they are sooo hot.

Shopper727 · 26/08/2023 18:57

I’ve been feeling a bit meh for last 6 months, sore joints, exhaustion irritated etc went to gp as overweight can not lose it. I thought perhaps t2 diabetes but no hormones surging and hrt on cards am 44 didn’t think things would happen this age but seems it’s more common than I thought.

Estelle74uk · 26/08/2023 19:08

I got mine in early 40s, but mine sort of felt like heat coming out from every pore of my head! Very strange. Happened with nite sweets for about 6 months then stopped. I overheat alot. But that was weird

Omg, this is me!!!! Since last week, it's so weird, hate it when it happens at night, husband getting annoyed as I throw the cover off and he ends up smothered 😆
