Hi all I'm new here.
Looking for some advice, i started on HRT this week (estradiol gel/utrogestan 100mg once a day for 25 days).
Almost straight away started bleeding very heavy, cant get an appointment with my Dr, has anybody else had similar experience. Do i carry on or do i increase anything? Do i need to take anything or is this normal?

It says on the patient leaflet that bleeding in the first 3-6 months is normal.

Is this just not your own normal period?

How old are you and how long is it since you had a period?
If you are not post menopause (at least 12 months with no period or age over 54) is this not a period?

HRT won't make any difference to your own cycle in a few days.

Better to take utrogestan cyclically unless your periods have pretty much stopped

Thank you, no i have normal periods still but this is very different.

periods do get heavier in peri menopause, especially if your cycles become longer than the usual 4-ish weeks.

Please don't be worried. It's really not possible for a few days of HRT to build up the womb lining to such an extent that you will bleed like this.

As PP says, if you have regular periods, you should be using sequential HRT not daily Utrogestan.

Is there a reason why your GP has told you to use it that way?

ShellieJay201 · 24/08/2023 12:59

Not sure why they've prescribed it that way but after reading some articles on the Internet I'm not sure either, I do have fibroids and I believe I've been estrogen dominant for several years but the Dr and gynaecologist thought I was making it up as they had never heard of it.

Well, there is no such thing as estrogen dominance. It was a marketing term devised to sell progesterone cream (in the US) .

If you have periods still then you should be taking utrogestan on a two week on/two week off basis
you are taking it in the continuous regime ie daily which will inevitably cause irregular bleeding
