Can I change my amount of oestrogel dependent on where I am in my cycle?

Hi
Currently on 3 pumps oestrogel (1 in morning, 2 at night) and 200mg utrogestan for first 14 days of the month.
For about a week before a bleed I feel really anxious, dizzy and just 'not right' (hot flushes, headaches)
Does anyone know if for the 7 days before a bleed could I go up to 4 pumps oestrogel and then drop it down again for the rest of the month?
Thank you

Watching by with interest although something I read recently seemed to suggest reducing the estrogen in the second two weeks. It was along the lines of the higher levels of progesterone at that time (which for me would be from the Utrogestan) make the estrogen more 'potent' (apologies for the non-scientific explanation of this and also in case it is in fact a load of rubbish!). This caught my eye as there seems to be an optimal dose of estrogen for me above which the symptoms such as anxiety get much worse (prior to this each increase up to my current rather high dose had helped enormously).

Usually you would take the utrogestan for the last 10+ days of your cycle, not the first two weeks.

But if you meant the last two weeks, then I was told I couldn't take a higher dose oestrogen tablets to counteract the negative mpact of progesterone, because then I'd need more progesterone too. However when I was using oestrogen pumps I was told to start with 2 pumps and go up to 4 depending how I felt, which is contradictory, so I think it can probably be a bit flexible with the gel.

@Redavocadoes Many drs advise using the 1st day of the month so it's easy to remember. HRT resets the cycle into an HRT cycle. It's not meant to be synched with natural cycles, because they become erratic in peri meno- sometimes with gaps of months.

@2anddone You could try using the Utrogestan vaginally, which reduces all those side effects. I'd try that first and if it doesn't help, then try increasing the gel, but even that may not be effective.

ALSO the dose is 12 days (the leaflet says 12 or 14.) The 14 days is for women who bleed heavily and need 2 extra days of progesterone to try to control it.

Wouldn't taking the utrogestan at the start of a cycle cause that to become the end of the cycle, because it brings on a bleed?

It resets the cycle to an HRT cycle.
During peri, cycles are or become irregular. It is impossible to find the mid-point of a 28 day cycle, long term because cycles usually get further apart to 6,7, 8 weeks or even 8 months.

ALL HRT resets women's cycles into an 'HRT cycle'.

Women on patches or tablets aren't counting days and adding in progesterone on X Day. The follow the pack, which after a few cycles, resets their own.

I have discussed exactly this with my gynae and I increase the oestrogen in the second 7 days of progesterone. Basically once I start to feel yucky.

That said, she’s said to find the right level myself. My basic dose is 2 pumps per day and I can go up to 4. In the second half of the progesterone I get a bit flushy and lack lustre.

In your situation I’d try it and see if it makes a difference. I’m on long cycle though I don’t think that’d make much difference.

JinglingSpringbells · 20/08/2023 20:40

@PortiaWithNoBreaks I think the op is asking something slightly different. She's not using any for the first 2 weeks of the cycle.

@JinglingSpringbells you’re right! I replied to the wrong thread.

Jadedandlost · 20/08/2023 22:30

Yes you can. My consultant advised me to adjust dosage to find out what works for me.

@PortiaWithNoBreaks Sorry you were on the right thread. I was confused.
