What did the GP prescribe you for perimenopause

I really believe I'm perimenopausal. I just wondered what you were offered when you find out you were perimenopausal.
I'm thinking of trying something for menopause from the pharmacy but just wondering what they offer you at doctors.

Might be a good idea to turn this around and think about the options and what YOU want from your GP.

They don't offer anything usually unless you ask for something. They can offer HRT but some GPs aren't very helpful or trained enough in it. Some will try to fob you off with anti depressants that are expressly not advised by NICE.

There are exceptions of course, where women can't take hrt, and the GP may offer alternatives.

You can't get anything over the counter at a pharmacy except herbal supplements. There is very little evidence they work - some do seem to for hot flushes- but it's very variable.

what do you want to try?

Estrogel and ustrogestan (estrogen and progesterone). Felt a massive change in 2 weeks!
I'm 42, diagnosed as early perimenopause and PMDD. I did go private though.

Oestrogel (currently on 3 pumps started on 1, then 2 but neither were enough) and utrogestan for first 14 days of the month. 46 perimenopausal and given it by my nhs dr who has been amazing

You should ask to try HRT.

It can take a while to get to the right spot. I'm on oestrogen patches 100 strength and the mirena coil (which provides the progesterone), plus testosterone gel.

I started on patches of 50 and utrogestan and I couldn't stop crying for months. Gradually the oestrogen got to the right place and the mirena coil took away the horrible crashes I got with the utrogestan.

The testosterone is for libido and the NHS can only provide it for low libido, however I'm not really bothered about sex, I wanted T for energy and stamina.

Nothing. He just let me get on with it.

Definitely do some reading around HRT OP, there can be positive implications for bone and brain health in the long term.

I got prescribed Evoral 50 patches and 200mg ustrogestan to take for 14days out of 28. Been on them for a month and feel like my get up and go has come back and feeling less rage so far .
