Spots on face

I have been on The Mirena for years for contraception. I have been taking Oestrogel and Testosterone for a while.

I am getting spots on my face for the last 6 months. I reduced the Oestrogel and Testosterone and still getting spots. I even went as far as stopping the Testosterone as I read that was likely the cause. Anyone any ideas.

I have never had spots in my life until now. I actually suffered from really dry skin all my life.

Where on your face are the spots?

Theblacksheepandme · 18/08/2023 09:32

Around jawline and lower cheeks.

Is it definitely acne or could it be perioral dermatitis (have a Google). If the latter, you'll need a course of antibiotics to clear (but they work brilliantly).

Definitely not peripheral dermatitis. I actually looks chicken pox like but obviously isn't. Not herpes either.

A picture might help. It's a little calmer than usual as it was worst about a week ago. This may then clear and appear again after a few weeks.

I have to say (although I'm not a Dr!) that it looks like it could be perioral dermatitis to me. Here's a photo of mine (diagnosed by dermatologist).
Maybe consult your GP?

It certainly does look similar.

Worth seeking a doctor's opinion. If it is POD, nothing will shift it (the best home 'treatment' is to stop using anything other than water on your face which will result in improvement in most cases, but it nearly always requires antibiotics to shift completely).
POD often occurs after exposure to steroids. So asthma inhalers, steroid tablets for something or other, or hydrocortisone application to the skin somewhere when you've subsequently touched your face without washing your hands (this is how I got it - applying a fungal cream with steroid to my DC's skin).

I started getting spots of jawline/cheekbones from utrogestrone, take it vaginally now and skin much improved as never got spots even as a teenager. I did buy La Roche Posay (not sure if spelt right) for dry skin and put it on nightly and it did help and got rid of dry skin had on chin also, was nearly like a skin peel. Also used to smother my face with soother creme and it did help. Definitely seems to be hormone related. See your doctor or menopause clinic as they will be able to help if you can get appointment or a pharmacist as most are great. Or try La Roche Posay as really helped my skin and now only use it a few nights a week. Cut out sugar or sweetner if you use also.

I have a review appointment with my menopause clinic next week and will discuss with them. I once used a La Roche Posay suncream and reacted very badly to it. I am wary of using anything from that range since.

Sorry to hear that. Hope you get some answers after your appointment but it is most likely hormones all over the place and our skin changes. Difficult time for us all and wish you well.
