Testosterone over the counter

LovingLifeOver50 · 01/08/2023 17:43

I've read so many good things about testosterone and the menopause, however, getting prescribed it (on the NHS) seems almost imposible. I'm also on a limited budget, so attending one of those expensive clinics is out of the question.

Is there anywhere I can buy testosterone treatment over the counter?

Has anyone has success battling the dreaded menopause with testosterone ?

Thanks in advance!

Testosterone alone isn’t likely to improve menopausal symptoms but best used alongside oestrogen (and progesterone if you have your uterus).

Generally speaking bloods might be needed to check your natural testosterone levels and FAI, then regular monitoring of levels during treatment. Testosterone is unlicensed for women in the UK so can only be prescribed off licence. You won’t be able to buy it over the counter.

I’m on everything and still feel crap so wanted to try testosterone. GP can’t prescribe it in my area so referred me to meno clinic that has cancelled my appt 6 times now. Got so fed up, I’m now ordering it from Superdrug but only 4 weeks in, so too early to tell. GP sent me for a blood test first though and my level was low - 0.7.

Hi, I've just done a (mandatory) blood test through Superdrug, it was £55 and then ordered testogel online, it's £18 for one months supply. They do need you to have been on HRT for at least 3 months.

I was using the Testogel from Superdrug and was sceptical whether it was having any effect, but my GP has now done an about turn and has prescribed it to me (prob because I’ve been waiting for the meno clinic over a year now).
The GP prescribed Tostran but it’s OOS everywhere so I’ve ended up with Testavan, although I’m not sure whether it’s meant to be for women! Anyway, I’m not complaining - my libido is returning and I’m definitely feeling more upbeat.
Next, I’d somehow like to find out whether my oestrogen is maxed out - I’m on the NHS max dose of oestrogel but I’m not sure I’m absorbing very well.

Are these all gels? I want to ask my Dr for testosterone but would prefer a tablet tbh.

Yes, all gels.
