HRT gel & camping - how??

nobodygoesdowninthejungle · 27/07/2023 00:17

As I was rubbing in my gel just now and then letting in dry as I take off my make up, put my clothes away, sort out some laundry whilst naked from the waist down, it occurred to me that I'll have to just loiter in the family bathroom when staying with PILs next week. Then it occurred to me that we're going camping the week after that and there are toilet & shower blocks.
What the hell do I do? At the moment, I wash my hands, apply the gel, wash my hands again and let it dry. I can't do that in the tent as there won't be the hand washing opportunity and I'd worry that, if I sat or lay down, the gel would transfer to those surfaces. But nor can I apply it in a toilet cubicle as then I'd be stuck there for 5 minutes and couldn't even come out to wash my hands. It felt as though there weren't quite enough washing/toilet facilities last year so I don't want to make a bigger issues of it than it needs to.

Can you ring your GP and ask if they can prescribe you a few patches to use while you’re away? (Apologies if you can’t use them for some reason). I love mine because they’re so convenient, and I can just slap one on and forget it for 3-4 days.

DustyLee123 · 27/07/2023 07:31

My gel doesn’t take long to soak in, and I rub it in with the lid, so no need to wash hands. If you spread it over a bigger area it will soak in quicker.

Apply in the loo/shower cubicle, towel round waist to pop out and wash hands, let it dry, pants back on in the loo/shower cubicle.

Get some shorts that are short enough to put gel on legs and dry etc.
I got some jersey nightwear shorts from primark. I then swap to trousers/jeans when dry.

Washing hand good slug of water from a bottle the dry on a towel just for you ??

Not that hard!?

UnaOfStormhold · 27/07/2023 08:08

The spray (lenzetto) would be perfect if you can switch to that in time - you don't get it on your hands and it dries in about a minute.

JinglingSpringbells · 27/07/2023 08:23

You ought to be able to apply it to your arms inside the tent- even with a short sleeved T shirt on (or shorts- if it's warm!) I spread half a pump over each arm or thigh, and the same in the evening (after a shower.) Half a pump on each arm dries very fast.

You could also just wipe your hands with a wet wipe.

JinglingSpringbells · 27/07/2023 08:26

If your tent is big enough to stand up and get dressed in there, it ought to be easy! Just apply before you put your clothes on and wipe your hands on a wipe, or a wet facecloth in a zippy bag for that purpose only.

Libraryloiterer · 27/07/2023 08:26

Do it in the tent then wash your hands with alcohol gel or wipes maybe?

Gladyys · 27/07/2023 09:12

Just do it in the tent. Vest top on, or pj shorts apply and rinse hands. We always had water available when we camped or as others have said use wipes.

SuperSange · 27/07/2023 09:22

Put your t shirt on, tick the sleeves in your bra straps to make a temporary vest, apply gel, go about your day, untuck the sleeves.

Helenahandkart · 27/07/2023 09:25

Rub it in with the back of a spoon to avoid the hand washing issue. Wear a big floaty dress so that you can go about your business knickerless until it dries.

NameChangePoP · 27/07/2023 09:33

Can you change the gel? I found the pump gel took forever to dry, but Sandrena dries in seconds.

she's still going to have to wash the spoon!

Honestly, what's wrong with using a wipe? And, there is no real risk to not washing your hands unless you are going to have them all over a naked man or child within the next hour.

Why would she need to wash the spoon? She could keep a designated spoon specifically for this purpose in her toiletries bag. I don’t think using unnecessary wipes is a better solution. And who’s to say she won’t need to touch a child/man within the next hour? OP doesn’t mention whether or not she has children but touching her family seems like a reasonable possibility.

Yes, or even a tent peg.😂

My gel pump dries pretty fast. Soaks in within a few seconds tbh. No worse than any other cream or gel, and much quicker than sun cream. I use mine when I get into bed. Short sleeved oh. Rub it into my upper arm, then get into bed. I don't think anything more of it than that.

Wet wipes for hands before and after.

Strongbeatsskinny · 27/07/2023 17:44

Get a little hand held fan it’ll dry in seconds.

PortiaWithNoBreaks · 27/07/2023 19:11

The obvious solution is to put it on your upper arms surely? You’re supposed to spread it over quite a large area.
