Starting to realise that my anger and rage may be disproportionate to the crime committed, today is was the sound of my daughter eating cereal!!combine this with recent night sweats and freezing days and unpredictable periods, I’m 49, Does HRT help or should I power through bit longer?

My husband was just breathing a bit loudly while napping on the settee and I nearly lost it! You're not alone!
I had various symptoms last year - night sweats, aching joints, spotting for a week before my period, anxiety and raging PMT. Saw a private GP and she prescribed Utrogestan (progesterone) as I was only 42 at the time and she still thought it was more perimenopause than full on menopause so didn't need full HRT yet. Anyway, it has definitely helped but the rage still appears at times. Maybe it is everyone else!

Anger was the main reason I went on HRT. It settled for a while and when I felt it returning I got a higher dose.

Moredarkchocolateplease · 22/07/2023 17:23

My anger hasnt dissapated yet, but the night sweats and endless wees have.

To the PP who's just on utrogestan, to me that's the bad bit of HRT. Surely you want the good stuff of the oestrogen?! That's the bit that gives you energy and life and hope.

Madamecastafiore · 22/07/2023 17:57

Yep it's normal, I could have murdered most of my family and on some days any pillock who dared speak to me.

HRT saved me from being sent down for murder.

Cranarc · 22/07/2023 17:59

HRT almost immediately stopped the night sweats, urinary urgency and dissolving into tears at the slightest provocation. It barely touched the rage and eventually I realised this was a symptom of unprocessed childhood trauma so I am now doing therapy which is helping.

UsernameNotAvailableNow · 22/07/2023 18:01

I need HRT to stop me murdering people for breathing loudly. If the urge comes back, I increase my dose.

amylou8 · 22/07/2023 18:04

It's definitely EVERYONE else 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

moggerhanger · 22/07/2023 18:09

For various reasons I have just gone a fortnight without my HRT patches. And oh, good goddess, the RAGE. Coupled with dizziness, nausea and horrible anxiety/adrenaline surges. I nearly walloped teen DS with a frying pan earlier, for some very minor misdemeanour.

I now have patches and am waiting for them to kick back in. Can't come soon enough.

HGC2 · 22/07/2023 18:47

Right as convinced I am that if people would clear up after themselves and eat quietly I’d be fine, I’ll accept that a chat with my doctor might be worthwhile

That doesn't sound right. Normally, you should be on oestrogen too. It is high progesterone relative to oestrogen that often causes the anger symptoms, so that won't settle.

Menopause is only after your periods have stopped, so any symptoms in the run up to that are perimenopause. And that is when you are likely to have worst symptoms. Once you actually get to menopause, things settle for most women.

I would go back/get another opinion.

For the OP, @HGC2 HRT has saved my life, quite literally. My rage and mood swings were off the scale. I would try it, you can always stop if it doesn't help.

The doctor I saw thought that progesterone only might ease my symptoms to begin with and then I could add in oestrogen if I felt I needed it. I think because I'm still fairly young I didn't want to go straight into full HRT. No real logic behind this reasoning from my end tbh! I do feel a lot better than I did but there is room for improvement so I may review it. The original GP I saw was private as my mum offered to pay for me to see her so I could go more in depth with all my symptoms etc. My NHS GP was happy to continue prescribing progesterone only based on the information the private GP sent her but said we can review and see how I go.

Fannyfiggs · 23/07/2023 19:08

It is everyone else but the funny thing is HRT makes them behave and be less annoying!

MillWood85 · 23/07/2023 19:21

I'm 52, get the odd night sweat and am still having periods so bugger knows where I'm at. I do have a Mirena coil in and think that must be helping. I don't want HRT as to me, it's just delaying the inevitable. And I had a scuffle with cervical cancer in my early 30s so GP said they would be very reluctant.

But yes the rage is real. And set off by the most inoffensive things usually Blush
