Mirena versus oestrogen dose strength

I have posted before about my horrible time on utrogestan, orally and then vaginally.

I have now had a mirena coil fitted three weeks ago. I can totally cope with the bleeding, but despite hoping and thinking otherwise, the old progesterone symptoms are coming back.(and apologies to the person who I said I was getting on well with it the other day, it has become apparent that I'm not over the last few days!)

Mental conversations that always turn to worse case scenarios. When I walk the dogs all my thoughts are negative and worrying.
Worrying about a particular health issue over and over despite knowing there is no solution
Getting incensed by DH and DC when something doesn't go my way and I don't have total control in the house.
Bone tired fatigue - when I was just on oestrogen I felt on top of the world energy wise.

On the plus side I'm not crying as much as I did on utrogestan.

This is how used to feel every month for a fortnight after ovulating for the last 5 or more years and how progesterone makes me feel if I ever take a birth control pill.

I can't have a hysterectomy as I have severe prolapses. So it's progesterone or nothing.

Is it possible that a higher dose of oestrogen might' 'override' the negative symptoms of the mirena?

I am currently on 100 patch. I know NHS won't prescribe above this but would a private meno clinic prescribe and could it work?

Would you consider adding some testosterone ? I’d see a private clinic if you can afford it.

Moredarkchocolateplease · 16/07/2023 15:22

@DustyLee123 Yes I had been thinking about testosterone, do you think that might make a difference to my general mood?

Will ask my GP first, they are all young middle aged GPs and super supportive about meno.

Do you have T and did it make a positive impact?

Reading with interest (see username) 😩. Feeling shitty at the minute and just wondering if it could be the coil

DustyLee123 · 16/07/2023 16:34

No, I’m not on T, but it’s something I’d consider adding in if O and P didn’t seem to be doing it for me.

When I had my coil fitted, 3 yrs before I started HRT, I found it reduced my PMT rages.

Moredarkchocolateplease · 16/07/2023 17:14

@DustyLee123 sadly progesterone of any kind makes me want to leave home and abandon my family or scream!

I'd love this calmness that other women speak of. And I hate the fuggy tiredness. It's exactly like the run up to my pre HRT periods.

Why the feck can't someone come up with a way of scouring out the lining of the uterus every month without needing progesterone 😥

I'm glad I found this thread as this is exactly the issue I'm having. I'm only allowed lenzetto one spray due to past hyperplasia but the usual dose is 2 or 3. When I had the coil I had excruciating head pain, joint pains plus the stoned spaced out daily tiredness. Utrogestan vaginally at 200mg and the tiredness was back on after the first dose with an added plummeting mood. I did wonder if increasing the oestrogen to the recommended dose might help but my GP says no.

Moredarkchocolateplease · 21/07/2023 17:38

@amethyst69 thats so rubbish for you. I don't know what hyperplasia is (I'll have a Google), do you think your GP is being over cautious and would a private clinic be less cautious about increasing the eostrogen?

Since I posted, I've had a testosterone test which said 'Free Androgen Index can't be calculated' and testosterone is <0.4, from what I understand that's quite low. Going to see GP next week to get a testosterone prescription. Also found out I'm low in some nutrients, all of which coulx be contributing to the exhaustion, maybe not just the coil. Fingers crossed!

I should add it's my GP who had me tested and did a full blood panel to check for other causes of the exhaustion. GP v supportive.

@Moredarkchocolateplease thanks. endometrial hyperplasia is where your womb lining cells change and its graded from simple not atypical (not pre cancerous) to complex atypical (pre cancerous) I had a very mild case of the first. Often down to too much oestrogen but when tested mine was low so likely not enough progesterone. It cleared of its own accord without treatment. At the time of prescribing the HRT they were being cautious because my final scan hadn't cone back clear. I'm going to ask to be referred to the meno clinic.

I understand adding testosterone to the mix can help so fingers crossed!!!
