Sky high testosterone -WTAF?

So I've just started HRT courtesy of the June discount at the Newson Clinic (GP less than useful sadly).

As I am 48 the NC wanted to do bloods to test for testosterone levels so that we could add that in if needed. They charge £85 for this but as I can't afford that got it tested through a online medical provider for £30. The result came out at 7.44n/mol which is like sky high. I figured this was a mistake so splurged on another test with another provider and the reading was higher. For females normal is max 1.67 n/mol according to their stats.

So, clearly I don't need testosterone. Is the HRT I'm taking (2 pumps oestrogen and ustrogestan 12 days a month) causing this? Am I about to sprout a beard?!? (I don't have one currently, nor acne nor chest or back hair)!

Anyone had a similar experience or can advise? I've done everything so far through the NC apart from this test but I don't trust my GP who is anti HRT and I can't afford £50 each time to ask the NC.

I can’t get at my results right now but after I started taking testosterone I had a second blood test and they came back very high. Locum gp wanted me to reduce my testosterone but it had transformed my libido and she couldn’t give me any real evidence relating to the risks of high testosterone (and I hadn’t read anything very convincing about the “normal” ranges) so I’ve carried on regardless. Still no side effects that I have noticed.

that said, is there a particular reason for adding testosterone to your HRT?

Thanks for replying.

Nope it's just that the Newson Clinic mentioned adding it in so I got testing for my natural levels which were as stated - ie without added HRT based testosterone!!!

Maybe this is just incidental and it's always been like this, I'd just like to know if my estrogen drops with those high levels what I'm in for - and/or if I should be doing anything about those high levels 😬

That is high. I had mine tested and I was 0.15. 6 months of testosterone gel I was re-tested at 1.65.

I was worried I'd go too high - but I won't worry now.

I really thought it was just a rogue reading until I had it re tested by a different company.

Now I don't know what to do. It's not like I have any symptoms like acne, hair growth so do I just let it be?

As far as I know I don't have PCOS or any of the other causative issues.

Did you get any further with this? I tested with Superdrug and it's come back at 3.1, obviously high as well. I don't have any symptoms either but google says there are a few reasons it can happen. @chittyshittyohffs

Were these proper blood tests (veins) or finger-prick? I heard the finger-prick tests can be really unreliable.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 20/09/2023 17:05

Mine was the finger prick test. Glad to hear it could be unreliable. I certainly don't feel like I have high testosterone!

Bex4567 · 05/04/2024 20:53

What was the outcome please

BrassicaBabe · 08/04/2024 08:18

Yes I'd heard the finger pick was unreliable too. I was asked to order a "proper" blood test for testosterone

Bex4567 · 30/04/2024 23:31

Did u find out why it was high after
