HRT and Mirena - worrying

I’ve been on HRT - oestrogel 3 pumps a day and utrogestan days 14-28 - since last November, and citalopram since February. Was feeling good on it but also need some contraception so I had a Mirena coil fitted on Tuesday and planned to stop the utrogestan. It was fine at the fitting, and I have had very very mild cramps feelings and tiredness since. But I am freaking out a bit about possible perforation, and feeling quite finer in my movements, very aware that it’s in there, although I can’t feel it. I made an appointment earlier to have it out and thought I’d go on the mini pill. But I’m aware that then it’s higher progesterone and I can’t risk low moods again, I was very depressed earlier in the year. Should I stick it out on the Mirena? Will I get used to the idea? Or have it taken out and try the mini pill? Thanks.

In my experience the Mirena can take a while to settle down. If I were you I'd persist for a few weeks and see how you go. I loved mine, but it took a couple of months to settle.

Hi beebee23,
I'm 60 now and using the Mirena for part of my HRT. I've used one for contraception/fibroid problems for many years. Stick with it, I love mine. So easy as well.

It's only been 5 days, take painkillers for a few days and stick with it. I had mine fitted a few months back and it took about 2 weeks before the niggley "pain" went away and the bleeding stopped.
