2 periods in one month, is this peri?

I'm 45 and yesterday to my horror discovered my period was starting at work when a) I had no protection and b) I'd only finished my period just under 2 weeks previously. Fortunately it was very light in starting so I shoved some toilet paper in my pants, checked the situation frequently in the toilets and made it to the end of the day unscathed.

It's now started in earnest so today I wore my cup and period pants as normal. Had some tiny clots which I've had before.

Should I discuss this with a Dr? I'm wondering if it's peri or something more sinister. I had a smear last year which was fine. I'm also going through some stressful life stuff (terminally ill parent and other depressing family health stuff) that could possibly manifest itself somehow, I don't know. Been feeling quite detached lately. I haven't really noticed any other symptoms although a few months ago I had a massive rage just before my period and have also felt a bit tearful and got very anxious once over something ridiculous (not health related) I read online which I wouldn't usually have done.

But I've never had this happen before although had irregular periods in the past due to meds etc.

Thanks for any comments.

Massive rage, yes.
Periods getting closer together, yes.
Anxiety, yes.
Feeling detached ( sort of meh), yes.

I had exactly this at 47 and yes it was the start of menopause. I then had almost a year of normal periods before missing one and then three years or irregularity. My last period was at 51. I would suggest that you see your GP however as it can occasionally be a sign of an ovarian cyst. I was checked over and was fine but GP said I was right to book an appointment.

Thanks for this. I meant detached about the family illnesses but thinking about it I have been very 'meh' about things in general lately. Nothing makes me excited, I do things and it's nice sometimes but there's no deep emotional impact. Even music isn't affecting me like it used to. I feel like I'm watching someone else listen to a song and it's not scratching the surface. There's no joy everything feels beige. Going through the motions.

I'll make an appointment to discuss it. And keep backup sanpro in my bag just in case.

Music not affecting you - yes, this is me ! I had tickets to my favourite band of 35 years but sold them as I couldn’t be bothered going, I’d rather be in bed at 10pm. Several years ago I’d have driven across country on my own to see them.

Ah that's a shame. I could probably still enjoy a concert but just day to day stuff isn't hitting like it used to.

I'm donating blood next week after a 6 month break due to low haemoglobin so hoping it'll be OK, am taking iron supplements to help fingers crossed.
