Testosterone- hairy inner thighs! How to avoid

I've been prescribed testosterone, I've been using it for about three years on and off now. I keep stopping taking it because of the thick hairs that grow where I apply it. I started off applying to to my belly, then read that it should be alternate inner thighs. Either way, I get thick dark hair growing there. I shave them but they seem to appear again overnight.

My libido is low, I don't sleep well and I'm aching, but have several other things going on at the same time including arthritis and fibromyalgia, so unsure what symptoms are purely down to menopause. My last period was four years ago. I also take sn antidepressant which I'm aware affects my libido too.

I hoped the testosterone would help with my libido, but don't want to be covered black fur!

Any tips?

Also the dose changed recently, I was prescribed a different bottle and this one is 16.2 mg/g which I'm meant to apply nightly one pump. Not sure what it was before but it was one pump every other day. From what I remember it didn't seem to be as strong. Actually I've just checked my emails and it was 2% gel, 10mg per actuation.

I can't get hold of a doctor or anyone to discuss this, due to the system used at or surgery now.

Interested in any info anyone has!

I’ve noticed hair appearing on my inner thigh. Not sure if it can be applied elsewhere - let’s hope someone with experience is around to reply.

I started using Tostran 2%, 1 pump equals 10mg testosterone. I too have noticed increased body hair at the site of application, which I could do without. I’ve started using my upper inner arm, the hairs on my forearms have become thicker and darker, but I’ll just bleach these blonde which is pretty much the colour they have always been before Tostran.

The dose that your taking sounds pretty HIGH to me. I use 1 pump twice a week. Originally it was 3 pumps one week and 4 the next, within two weeks my libido came back big style. I was wearing my poor husband out. I’ve calmed down a lot now I’ve reduced it 🤪

I also have M.S and the Tostran has helped greatly with the pain as it helps to dampen down inflammation. I’m also on Tramadol and this is renowned for reducing libido, something I wasn’t aware of until recently.

I have benefited greatly, it’s also allowed me to reduce my Tramadol by half, I also have an estrogen patch and progesterone. It’s not easy getting the regime right but it’s worth persevering. Make an appointment to see a knowledgeable Dr or speak to your pharmacist. I initially saw a menopause specialist, and by me doing this has lead my own G.Ps to literally learn on the job from my experience of testosterone. I did make my Dr laugh when I told her I’m sometimes banished to the spare bed so hubby can get a good nights sleep without my demands.

I also have to have blood tests once a year to monitor the amount of testosterone to keep check on it.

Most antidepressants absolutely eradicate sexual desire and function in both men and women.

You might be overtreating for something that isn't even caused by a lack of testosterone.

I used to get that. I now put it on the sole of my foot and it’s working just fine- really good absorption and no hair!

humblemeep · 19/06/2023 22:14

@BigButtons that's a good idea!

That's true actually, could just be the antidepressants, I don't think I can ever come off them though and they keep me on an even keel, so I don't want to swap to something else.

I've never had my testosterone levels tested! I was originally prescribed it by a menopause clinic, then moved hose and my new gp just gave me it without a test either.

In order to get an appointment you have to ring at 8 am every morning, by the time I get through all appointments are fine and I'm told to ring again the next day 😮 No menopause clinic nearby either.

I mean - it's testosterone. It probably will encourage hair growth
