Perimenopause/HRT when suffering from ME/CFS/Fibro - getting desperate!!

As the title says, I have ME/CFS and Fibro. Because of these I have lots of symptoms that are common with perimenopause too. The main ones being crushing fatigue, brain fog and nausea at times. I also have many other symptoms but these are the ones that seem to have exacerbated and have such an effect on my life. I feel like a shell. I also suffer with anxiety and OCD (generally well controlled but anxiety spiked big time last year) for which I’ve been taking Citalopram for the past decade or so.

My issue is that I am usually sensitive to meds. Not in an allergic way, more just I always suffer from side effects which can be worse than the thing they’re treating. This is really putting me off trying HRT. Another reason is I could never take the pill when younger as it made me vomit awfully and I’m worried that might happen with HRT too.

I’m 47 if it’s useful. Can anyone offer any advice please?

Hi,
I have fatigue and pain although mine are crps/FND.

I got very anxious last year and switched from amytriptyline to duloxetine to help with the anxiety.

I went to see the doc when I started getting night sweats and she gave me HRT patches.

It's easy to stop them if the side effects are bad (just take the patch off) and they need replacing twice a week anyway,

I have less pain and fatigue now I am on them and the night sweats have pretty much stopped.

Yes my health situation is the same as yours. I would say definitely try it, if you have any side effects (I have none) then you can stop. Be aware it can take 3-6 months to be sure whether or not the hrt is benefitting you.

It made no different to my cfs symptoms, but did relieve menopausal symptoms.
