Looking in the mirror….

Anyone else struggling with the physical changes to their appearance?

I’ve never been good at grooming and don’t have the basics like thick hair and good skin. I have fine, fly away hair and pale, thin, skin which is as dry as the desert and showing lots of blue veins!

It seems even more difficult to look passable these days. I’ve never been a looker but just don’t want to feel so unconfident. I’m avoiding looking in the mirror.

No idea where to start to try and improve things or if I should even bother…..

I’m the same. I don’t look or feel as well as I used to.

I started using Laura geller stuff from qvc as you get 60 days to try it and if you return it you just pay postage costs.

The Balance And Brighten foundation stuff is a mineral powder that’s easy to sweep on with a brush and it hides the blue shadows under my eyes and disguises the age spots. My skin is too dry for foundation as it looks blotchy and cracked.

I think Avon does a mineral powder foundation too. Prob many companies do! Literally takes one minute to do and a spot of blusher on the apples of the cheeks and job done.

I sometimes use mascara and lippy if I can be bothered.

My hair started thinning and I tried to do the parting at a different place per advice and that helps a bit.

@Elieza
Thanks for that. Being so fair even the tiniest bit of make up made me look OTT but maybe I need to experiment with some. I doubt cream type foundation will work with my dry skin either. No idea how women get that dewy glowy look.

My hair’s naturally fine but menopause seems to have affected the dryness. It’s more frizzy and fly away now.

I know it’s all superficial stuff but it does affect my confidence. I suppose good genes are all part of the lottery that is life.

Maybe spend some time if you can having a make up makeover at some counters @Fififizz ?

There are plenty that are really good and literally LOADS of foundation for dry skin. There are also tinted moisturisers if you want a gradual intro to make up.

Bobbi Brown
Clinique
Laura Mercier
Estee Lauder
Lancome
Clarins

All worth a try!

Maybe ask to try a foundation and blusher, and a lipstick?

They often give samples you can try at home.

Have you had bloods checked recently? Women often have low ferritin or low thyroid levels. Ask for a full well women screen. If ferritin in normal range you'll notice a difference with your hair.
Invest in a good facial moisturiser and body moisturiser.
I find cellulite can become noticeable in peri and older, regular massaging with a cellulite tool and gel makes a massive difference.

@JinglingSpringbells thanks, I’ll investigate.

@Janiie thanks, yes I recently had full bloods and thyroid was in normal range but I have so many possible symptoms of thyroid problems and family history I’m wondering if it’s worth getting a private more detailed test done.
