Mirena and still bleeding

Hi, does anyone have any positive (or otherwise) stories about having a mirena to control heavy bleeding while on hrt?
Had terrible bleeding, non stop flooding etc so was prescribed a mirena which I was very happy about.
Fitted two months ago and bleeding has crept up to non stop again, with some clots, not as bad as pre coil but getting worse not better.
I'm on everol 75 and had ultrasound and biopsy all clear etc so bleeding is hrt related.
I know it takes 6 months to settle. But I was expecting just spotting. Anyone else have the same?

Have you checked your strings to make sure it’s still there, with you passing clots ?

Had my Mirena coil fitted 5 years to cope with heavy periods. Still have regular periods but more manageable. I'm 52

Hi,
Yes I checked for the strings after a couple of weeks because of the bleeding, checked the other night too. Also had a coil years ago for contraception and no periods for about 5 years. Bliss! After the months of heavy bleeding I was really pining my hopes on this working. It's too soon to go back to gp. If it doesn't settle I'll ask if I can take oral progesterone too. Thank you for your replies.

I saw a consultant this week about bleeding, and he said that the best way to control bleeding was with progesterone in the womb, so a coil. He did say that the next step would be ablation in clinic.

When i had lingering bleeding, I was sevt for a scan to check positioning of mine - worth asking your GP.?

(Mine did settle down eventually)

Yes I really thought that the coil would work as it hits the spot so to speak! Maybe it's early days but the bleeding is definitely heavier as the days go by.

@Needapadlockonmyfridge I hadn't thought of that. Maybe I'll email the GP tomorrow to see what they say. How long did it take for things to settle for you?

@DustyLee123 I've even looked into private hysterectomy costs!

Sorry to hear this. I had heavy bleeding and flooding and clots which was awful for ages but for some reason I really didn't want a coil and thought I would continue to put up with it. Luckily a consultation changed my mind. I have not had a spot or anything since the day it was put in, it's been 5 years of easiness so I'd get everything checked out if I were you.

PearlsaSwinger · 08/06/2023 22:26

@theyarereallytakingthepissnow I'm really pleased it worked for you 😊. I'll message the gp tomorrow but I think they'll say it's too soon to tell.

I had it for a year. Had light bleeding most days until I had it removed - sorry not what you want to hear

About 4/5 months?

I had previously had a Mirena with great success.

This time round it was after some heavy bleeding episodes when I had thought I was 2 years post menopausal 🙄. I am on Evorel 50 patches too.

When I spoke to GP I asked if patch dosage might affect this and GP said increasing to a higher strength would make it worse... so I wonder if it is worth you asking if dropping down to 50 would help???

PearlsaSwinger · 09/06/2023 07:51

@Bringonthesunforthewashing thank you for replying and it's good to hear all sides.
@Needapadlockonmyfridge I wondered about dropping back down to 50 but that wasn't enough to control my symptoms. It's hard to get the balance right. Thank you everyone thats replied.

I had a year of bleeding, not enough for a tampon, a sort of black sticky sludge. Had it taken out eventually.

DustyLee123 · 09/06/2023 08:36

My mirena took 7 months to settle down. Even now I seem to have the occasional period.

PearlsaSwinger · 09/06/2023 10:07

Thank you everyone for taking time to reply. I've a phone appointment booked with practice nurse for later this month. It's early days yet but as it's getting worse I've no confidence in it settling down. Oh the joys!

Update in case it helps anyone else. Everything has settled and bleeding tailed off and stopped almost 2 weeks ago. So at the moment coil is a success, no side effects with mood either.
