I know I'm probably jumping the gun far, far too quickly, but wondered if you could share your experiences (and make me see I'm getting ten steps ahead of myself) ...
My periods have always been regular as clockwork until about 18 months ago when they suddenly went very random and could arrive at any point, for any length of time. March and April this year was bonkers with 6 periods in 6 weeks. But since then absolutely nothing. Not any of the pinkish discharge, not any of the tummy pains before a period arrives, and no period.
I'm trying not to get my hopes up that I'm done already, I know it will probably arrive and then continue being random for many more months, but it feels a bit like when I was waiting to find out if I was pregnant Grin
I am almost 50 if that helps?

Alas I doubt that that is it - you've just entered the other phase of menstrual randomness that is the perimenopause, where instead of appearing very close together they appear very far apart. Mine started this week for the first time since mid-March, good times.

If you get any symptoms of ovulation, that may give you a warning of when to expect the next onslaught, but otherwise 'all' you need to do is be constantly vigilant and never leave the house without your period supplies.

I've got my fingers crossed for you, though, that it's gone for good!

eatdrinkandbemerry · 02/06/2023 19:30

I'm almost 50 and thought I'd done when my period stopped in December lol.
None January
None February
None march
None April
None may
Ding dong it arrived today 😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩

tribpot · 02/06/2023 19:32

Oh god @eatdrinkandbemerry that is really shit. If it helps, I thought mine was going to be horrific with it being 71 days since the last one started (I appreciate a mere blink of the eye compared to you) but it was actually alright. By the standards of these things.

TrueScrumptious · 02/06/2023 20:01

That’s too soon to tell. I had a period six months after nothing.

junebirthdaygirl · 02/06/2023 21:08

I have written this here before. No periods for well over a year. Went on holidays..flying ..and as soon as l arrived they came. No more periods for another year. Flew again on holidays and yes as soon l arrived they came AGAIN. I feel its something to do with the flight.
And that was the very final one even though l flew regularlyafter that. I was about 53/54. So be prepared.

JinglingSpringbells · 02/06/2023 22:39

We don't have a crystal ball. :)

You need to wait 12 months and after that time it's unlikely you will have another (if none has come in that time.)

Passthecake30 · 03/06/2023 07:03

mine were bonkers for a few years, flooding for a year and then getting wider and wider apart, sometimes around 3 months, sometimes longer. I had a gap of 13 months and then a few very light cycles so had to start counting again… and now I’ve not had one for 11 months. I think I’m done, I’ve had 1.5months of HRT and the oestrogen hasn’t made me spot - so my interpretation of this is that I have very little of my own. I’m 48 and I wasn’t expecting to be post-meno at this age.

sorrynotathome · 03/06/2023 07:07

I had a six month gap followed by the period from hell. I finally understood what flooding means…

AlisonDonut · 03/06/2023 07:17

I went into early menopause at 42, and now at 55 I still get headaches, nosebleeds and the odd light bleed every 28 days. Your cycle doesn't actually ever stop.

mondaytosunday · 03/06/2023 07:25

I think it's if no period in 12 months you can pretty much think you are done. Too early to tell with you yet.

Cycles do stop. If you mean you were fully menopausal at 42 then you won't have bleeding at 55. Do you mean you went into peri menopause at 42? Because if your periods stopped at 42 and you're now bleeding off and on you should see your dr.

No full menopause at 42, osteoporisis by 49. It's been a wild ride.

I'm sorry to hear that @AlisonDonut

Have you seen a dr about your bleeding? If you went for more than 12 months at 42 without a period , but you are now bleeding regularly at 55 you really do need to see your dr and have some tests. That isn't normal.

thesnailandthewhale · 03/06/2023 10:10

I got my answer this morning HmmGrin Wishful thinking!

tribpot · 03/06/2023 10:32

Oh dear - well, back on the perimenopausal rollercoaster! At least after this you can have a couple of weeks of not having to worry about it arriving when you're unprepared. Cherish those moments ... 😆

RuthW · 03/06/2023 13:08

You are not done until two years have passed if you are under 50.

Mine were every 7 months for a few years.

Aquamarine1029 · 03/06/2023 13:33

I was going to say be very, very careful. My great grandmother thought she was done as she hadn't had a period for nine months. As it turns out, she was six months pregnant at 49, had the baby when she was 50. It was her 10th child.

thesnailandthewhale · 03/06/2023 15:28

Hmm, false alarm it seems ... so I woke up with that familiar tummy ache, there was some blood when I wiped, but nothing since Confused This is quite the adventure Grin Anyway, thank you for sharing your experiences, I'm still hoping I'm on the home straight, just not sure quite how far away the finish line is 🤣

tribpot · 03/06/2023 15:40

Ah that's a classic trick to lull you into a false sense of security. I reckon it will be putting in another appearance before tomorrow.

Do you think you're confusing contraception and post-menopause @RuthW ?

Menopause is 12 months with no period, whatever age, but advice is to carry on with contraception for 2 years after a last period if you are under 50.

I am 57 in August and still have them. Thought I was done in March too but May came and give me the worst PMT and pain I have ever had.
I have now had periods for 43 yes. When will it end?!
