Surgical Menopause and stopping hrt?

KatyMac · 30/05/2023 09:33

I had my ovaries out in 2018 but kept my uterus

I've been struggling with my hrt - evoral conti patches every 3 days and trying to save up to see a specialist

But I went away at the weekend, forgot my patches, so I'm now six days since I changed with not significant symptoms.

So apart from staying on hrt for other health reasons I'm wondering if my body has adjusted now

So I'm going to drop to every 4 days and see what happens

let us know how it goes :)

It's very early days @KatyMac

I stopped for a month and it was only by then that symptoms came back.

Other people I know found that it took between a month and 3 months for symptoms to come back.

KatyMac · 30/05/2023 19:08

I will @lljkk

I know @JinglingSpringbells but as I'm supposed to alternate 3 and 4 days if might be OK?

Mind you each batch of patches causes a different reaction and I can get 5 or 6 batches in each prescription

How old are you? It's the ovaries that provoke the production of oestrogen that is needed to protect against premature osteoporosis. Its role is not just to help or prevent hot flushes, night sweats etc...

KatyMac · 30/05/2023 19:30

Yes and heart disease and possibly half a hundred other things
I'm 55
And not particularly well - I was hoping to hang that on too much medication rather than not enough

But I reckon@JinglingSpringbells is probably right

I don't understand what you mean by alternating?

Do you mean that the patches are estrogen only for half the month and estrogen +progesterone for the 2nd half?

Mind you each batch of patches causes a different reaction and I can get 5 or 6 batches in each prescription

I dont know what you mean here.

The patches are all the same brand, surely, no matter how many packs you get.

KatyMac · 30/05/2023 19:55

No I'm on evoral conti so it's the same every patch rather than sequential

The patches are supposed to be the same but they feel different sometimes more effective sometimes less

And my instructions are to use 2 a week changing on day 3 and day 7 but I couldn't manage that so the grudgingly let me have a patch every 3 days

@KatyMac which symptoms came back ?
I guess it's good that at least now you know.

KatyMac · 01/06/2023 21:46

Restlessness, brain fog, heat (not really flushes just constant warmth) and insomnia!!

Thank you for updating! I am also on evorel conti for surgical menopause and have wondered how much effect I get drom the patches.

kizziee · 01/06/2023 22:03

It's interesting to see that you noticed a difference so quickly

KatyMac · 01/06/2023 22:08

We have an interesting development I may (or maybe not) have cellulitis from an insect bite - just chatting over on Sporners corner

& I guess an infection also fits those symptoms (espbthe being hot bit!!)

kizziee · 01/06/2023 23:06

Oh goodness ! If there's a chance it's cellulitis don't just leave it

KatyMac · 01/06/2023 23:11

Chemist in the morning I reckon
