Menopause misery - BMS and constant bleeding

Hi all,

I really need some help with 2 things in particular with my perimenopause, they are making my life a misery.

Firstly, I started on HRT approx 3.5 months ago (Evoril patches first and then switched to gel). Within 3 days of starting the oestrogen part of the HRT and consistently since I have been experiencing the symptoms of burning mouth syndrome (BMS). When I forgot once to do the gel, and halved the dose of gel in an attempt to reduce the pain, the symptoms of BMS have abated but the brain fog comes back. So it definitely seems to be linked to the oestrogen and/or other ingredients of the oestrogen, which is strange as all the literature says BMS is a result of a lack of oestrogen. Has anyone else experienced this and have any advice as to maybe switching meds, or any ways to relieve the symptoms other than constantly sucking ice cubes?! I have recently started dating someone new and it's a real passion killer to say I have open sores in my mouth if you get my gist!!

The second thing is I have been bleeding now fairly constantly for a month and I'm fucking sick of it. Is there anything I can do to make it fuck off??

TIA

I can't help directly but there is an old thread on Meno Matters: www.menopausematters.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=33548.0

I'd ask for a review of your meds, and a referral if the GP doesnt know. You shouldn't be expected to live with those two nasty symptoms/side effects.

This link is incredibly helpful, thank you! Everything I have read says take HRT to help with BMS, with me it has caused it!!!

My GP is fully aware, she has referred me to the Menopause Clinic, it's just the wait ...

If you have a friendly pharmacist it might also be worth asking them.
