Heavy/swollen legs

I've noticed that since turning 40 a few years ago my lower legs are starting to feel really heavy by lunchtime and by the end of the day I have swollen ankles. Not excessively so, but to the extent that I have to put my feet up in the evenings.

I am slightly overweight and do have issues with varicose veins (although got the worst ones treated a few years ago), plus my job is sedentary at the moment. I try to get out for a fast walk at lunchtime which definitely helps but is there anything eIse can do to reduce the heaviness? Drink more water? Morning walk before work?

I wish I had a more active role but sometimes it can be so busy that I don't move from my desk for a couple of hours because of all the demands coming in.

I would suggest you try wearing support socks. I find they reduce tiredness in the legs significantly.

I had them after my op and they were amazing, but I can't really wear them in the summer.

I'm thinking about getting one of those under-desk exercise machines to see if that makes a difference.

Look up lipoedema. Not to be confused with lymphoedema. I have lipoedema and have these symptoms.

I’m the same , doctor suspects Venous insufficiency . I thought it was menopausal or mineral insufficiency. Due for a consultation and scan soon .

How's your blood pressure? Getting that fixed stopped my ankles.

Drinking more water can help, and boringly, losing some weight, exercising more, getting enough sleep and drinking less school probably all helps, but it would be useful to know the cause and check nothing else is going on.
