Where can mirena move to?

Anyone know where a coil could shift to if it's going to shift?

Had mine in a year now and got stabbing pain in my side. No bleeding.

Got GP appointment in a week so will request a scan i think.

Thanks.

@Ladybug14 your chest??? Physically impossible surely?? Jesus Christ!!!!!

This pain is likely disc/arthritis/ osteoarthritis/ nerve/ cancer!!

Ive an appointment with the pain clinic in 3 weeks. But going to a&e tomorrow if it's the same or worse.

I've damaged discs somewhere, nerve damage somewhere and Horners syndrome ( unknown cause )

Currently on a 49 week waiting just to see a neurologist. So private appointment booked for June.

Reassuring to read the mirena can't go far but got a shit load to deal with, with this shite menopause!

@DustyLee123 if it’s an in date Mirena and it’s in your uterus youre v v v unlikely to get pregnant so don’t panic!

Runaround50 · 15/05/2023 21:26

Sorry but I don't trust the mirena now at all. Too many conflicting opinions. Think I want it out ( if it's there even!!!(

Only stating what I was told.

@Runaround50 I understand you’re worried but realistically with that history of chronic pain it’s unlikely the Mirena has anything to do with it and if you remove it you’ll need an alternative progesterone. It can be hard to get a new IUS fitted if you want another one at a later date. Honestly I’d wait and see if it’s in the right place. There’s a small chance of the coil perforating during fitting but it can’t just go from your womb to your chest randomly 6 months in.

Runaround50 · 15/05/2023 21:32

@NameChangeSorryNotSorry thanks. Realistically i know you are right. Just fed up and trying hard to get to see the correct medics.

Plus it's been in a year now.

@Runaround50 If you've had pain for a while then it does look sound unlikely that the mirena is suddenly causing it. If you have health anxiety I can understand how scary the thought of your coil roaming around would be though! I put off having one for years because the word "coil" sounded like rusty barbed wire! But I'm so glad I came to my senses 😊

NameChangeSorryNotSorry · 15/05/2023 21:37

I know it’s horrible when you cant get to the bottom of pain- I feel for you the NHS is a state at the moment and patients are passed from pillar to post constantly. I just know the waits for coils and wouldn’t want you to remove it on a frustrated whim! Definitely ask for a routine scan to confirm position though ☺️

Runaround50 · 15/05/2023 21:49

@NameChangeSorryNotSorry thanks so much. You are so right; I feel frustrated beyond belief.

I will put my logical head on tomorrow and start afresh.

It's been the best thing to stop post menopause bleeding. To revert to utrogestan again, could be gynae suicide!

I appreciate all your insightful words and opinions.

😊

I don't think there's really many places they can go. I suspect (based on just a hunch!) that maybe mine has got embedded in thickened womb lining or something. The strings have never been easy to feel.

It's made such a huge difference to my quality of life over it's lifetime, no terms of ending my dreadful period pain and flooding, I don't begrudge it's waywardness 😊

I hope your pain eases soon

Can I ask did your periods stop with it please? Many thanks!

Runaround50 · 15/05/2023 22:08

I am post menopausal. Haven't had periods in years. It was fitted for the progesterone part of my Hrt.

It can help with heavy/ painful periods though.

I'm on Mirena no 6 and have never had an issue with them migrating. But I do get horrendous pains at times - a scan showed that I've got a lot of surgical adhesions following 2 C sections.

I'm 52 and had mine changed last year as I was still having periods. Couldn't be without one.

Ladybug14 · 15/05/2023 22:48

@Ladybug14 your chest??? Physically impossible surely?? Jesus Christ!!!!!

Exactly

I was so confused. But apparently its a possibility

My coil was never found so they figured I passed it with a large clot

coolcahuna · 15/05/2023 22:52

Mine was also deemed lost as they couldn't find the strings. Had a scan at hospital and it was removed quickly, wasn't actually lost. But I had no pain. I think in your case I would get to A and E asap just to be on the safe side.

bigTillyMint · 17/05/2023 07:32

@Runaround50, did you manage to get to A&E yesterday? How did you get on?

Runaround50 · 17/05/2023 07:43

@bigTillyMint no I didn't make it to a&e. I think this pain is inflammation somewhere in my back ( I have disc problems ) and not the coil causing it.

I have a GP appt.on Monday and will ask to be referred for a scan as I want my whole womb checking anyway. Obviously any further episodes like Sunday night and I will be straight off to a&e.

I also have an appointment with the pain clinic in a couple of weeks and will request an MRI if that area.
