Weaning off HRT

Anyone want to do this together?

I've been on it for 1.5 years.
Have tried the spray, the patches, testogel, the vag oestrogen... I'm feeling anxious all the time and have put on weight. My boobs are like melons. I'm tired of thinking about it all the time!

Today I bought some fish oil. And I have the menopace tablets.
Going to try to swim every day and add in some yoga.

Majorly cutting down on carbs, sugar & alcohol.

Am a bit apprehensive about how much my joints ached pre-HRT, but
I feel like if I can lose the extra 3st I'm carrying, the joint aches might not require the HRT anyway.

Oh am going to stick with the vag cresm as it's very low and definitely has a positive effect.

Am weaning off, as I was on a 75 patch and had some 50's left over.

I'll post how it's going here every day.
Be lovely if anyone is thinking of quitting, and wants to join me?

😊

Hi
Yes I think I will join you.
I feel terrible at present, but that is because I have been playing about with my HRT. I REALLY want to ditch it completely, apart from the oestrogen cream for downstairs. However, I am worried as my bladder goes crackers and the joint aches are not great either.

I put on a 50 patch today but within an hour, felt awful. So I have removed it!

Just feel spaced out and off balance.

Best of luck :)

How many days have you been off the patches?

@RatatouilleAndFeta well I'm not going to lie, I've been messing about all week with the HRT. I was just so fearful of the symptoms and not being able to work properly etc. I've been off the patches completely since Friday ( other than the 1 hour today when the 50 went on and came off ).

RatatouilleAndFeta · 07/05/2023 21:02

I see. how did you feel when the patch was off Fri/Sat?

OP posts:
Runaround50 · 07/05/2023 21:12

Mmmm.. tricky to say. Probably better off than on, but still feel irritable and a bit anxious. It's hard to say I think at this point.

RatatouilleAndFeta · 07/05/2023 21:33

I guess it will take a while to settle.
I was watching Dr. Naomi Potter earlier here:

And she just made me think that if I made all the other lifestyle changes, like stopping drinking, exercising lots, not eating sugar and refined carbs, then I may actually loose the extra 3st I'm currently carrying and not really need the HRT.

But am weaning off it, because am a bit scared of my aches and pains and mood swings!

I swam this morning, which was lovely.
I didn't drink anything today, despite cooking a family lunch where everyone else was on the wine.
Haven't eaten any sugar or refined carbs.
Just had a herb tea.

Feeling more relaxed now and hoping I get a good nights sleep 🤞🤞🤞

Hey well done for persevering with the wine and sugar! You are on your way to getting fitter and healthier for sure.

Are you off the patch completely?

I really want to quit HRT but am scared of what might happen and actually Hrt was working ( except I didn't know it)

Will see what the next few days brings. I will also try quitting the refined carbs. Slowly working on the sugar ( haven't bought any sweets!) but did have a square of dark chocolate.

We can do this🤞

Tr1skel1on · 07/05/2023 21:47

I can't have HRT but I've found taking a menopace and Promensil top strength tablet every day has helped me a lot

RatatouilleAndFeta · 07/05/2023 21:47

Thanks! Am normally a wine lover. But it's been playing havoc with my anxiety lately. So happier not to drink for now.

I have been on 75 patches. So reduced to 50 today.
I'm thinking I could do a week on that then cut down to 25 before stopping.

I just figure that it's probably a good idea to try the alternative (to HRT) approaches at the same time. It'll help make up for the lack of HRT.

So started fish oils and menopace today. Oh also had collagen!

Oh heck, I'm going to have to work out how to do a link!! I may be some time.....

Runaround50 · 07/05/2023 21:55

Promensil? Is that a herbal supplement? Must have a look!

RatatouilleAndFeta · 07/05/2023 21:56

Have googled now don't worry!
They have great reviews!
Thanks will give them a go ☺️

What symptoms did they help with most?

OP posts:
Tr1skel1on · 07/05/2023 21:58

Sorry I can't do links on my ancient phone. Look up Promensil double strength tablets, you need the packet with 80mg on the front. The other varieties are much cheaper but useless.

Tr1skel1on · 07/05/2023 22:03

Hard to say what they helped with the most because it was with the menopace , but definitely vaginal dryness and soreness. Helped massively.

I think it's helped my mood swings, but with an autistic teenager attempting to sit a level's not sure you can tell!

TeeNoG · 09/05/2023 15:21

Hi, I would like to join in here please! I have been on Evorel patches for 6 months and am planning to try a few months without them, as my mood is all over the place and I suspect the patches are making things worse.

I'm interested to see what supplements people are successful with, and I suppose I could begrudgingly try and cut down on sugar if it helps. I don't drink alcohol so that's not a problem at least 😖.

I also need to be serious about regular exercise and getting enough sleep, I'm sure those 2 will help my mood?!

Runaround50 · 09/05/2023 17:00

Welcome @TeeNoG
It's a right old palava this menopause shite, that's for sure!

What patches were you on?
I was on evorel 75/100.

I reluctantly slapped one on yesterday as I was so scared of what might happen. I feel terrible. Drunk/fuzzy/off balance etc.

Sleep and exercise are key I think.

I've got the Health and Her post menopause supplements. Not sure what good they will do, but have to try!

RatatouilleAndFeta · 09/05/2023 19:26

Hi @TeeNoG 👋
What were you taking?
Are you going to wean off ir ho cold turney?

OP posts:
RatatouilleAndFeta · 09/05/2023 19:29

@Runaround50 maybe you could cut patches in half if you want to wean off?

I have been feeling dizzy and off balance today.
Apart from that am ok.
Still low carbing.
No alcohol.
The only sugar I've had has been fruit.
Didn't fit in exercise today was too busy.
Will have to rectify that tomorrow!

(or go cold turkey!)

Runaround50 · 09/05/2023 19:37

Hey @RatatouilleAndFeta
Good on you for sticking to the healthy eating plan. How are you feeling generally?

I feel a bit drunk/whoozy/ definitely off balance.

I might change my next patch for a 50 and see how that goes.

Wish I knew what the stupid body wanted!

Dentistlakes · 09/05/2023 19:41

Could I just make a suggestion re exercise. I would recommend resistance training (weights) over cardio. Some cardio is fine but if you want to lose weight then resistance training is key. You will build muscle mass which will
support weight lost whilst in a moderate calorie deficit. Eliminate alcohol if you can (it does you no favours) prioritise protein (I would recommend 1g per pound goal
weight), calorie deficit of around 500 calories. 8-9h sleep.

Runaround50 · 09/05/2023 20:06

@Dentistlakes 8/9 hours of sleep is only a dream for me!! Another symptom which will not go away, other than with amitriptyline.

TeeNoG · 09/05/2023 20:57

Hi @Runaround50 and @RatatouilleAndFeta

I'm on Evorel Sequi 50 patches for perimenopause symptoms. I honestly don't know whether to wean off or go cold turkey, but I feel like just ripping the blinking thing off and being done with them 😅
