Unsure

I feel like I should know the answer really but I'm really unsure...

I'm 39 and don't know if I'm heading towards peri or if I'm too early...

I have a 2yo DS who has been a very difficult baby and I've been tearful since he arrived - kept a close eye on it for PND but overall happy that it was fluctuating hormones lost baby combined with a very difficult baby that never stopped screaming.

Anyway, now we're at the point where

  • periods are becoming more irregular (I have PCOS so historically they've been wonky anyway but they seem to have changed somehow over the past 4-6months.
  • my moods are all over the shop for no particular reason
  • headaches - hormonal ones.
  • I don't seem to be as interested in sex as I was, but definitely nothing to do with DH or not wanting him, if anything I want to want it more.
  • seem to get a dry vagina, so much so it starts to get itchy.
  • general achey muscles, sort of like when you overuse muscles you don't normally use and know about it the next day.
  • Tiredness hits like a stick in the afternoon - I literally can't stop yawning all afternoon, bloody awful at work.
  • I wake up really hot overnight a few times a week, seems to sort itself quickly though so not necessarily what I'd expect hot flushes to be like, but thinking about it I don't know what I would think they'd be like.

Is it worth a trip to the GP? Would he do anything or is it just wasting an appointment? When I've read anything, it seems to suggest I'm too young yet so don't want to appear silly going to the GP if it's unlikely to be Peri yet.

Any helpful suggestions??

Try the GP but if they won't do anything due to your age then consider getting a private appointment?

I'm 53 but your symptoms are very similar to mine over the years before I got hrt.

You do need to see your GP. If it's perimenopause as the symptoms suggest then it's classed as early and it's advisable to start on HRT to protect your future health. Don't worry, but do see your GP and insist on tests.

I’m 39 and at the end of last year I found my periods were irregular, hot flushes at night, night sweats, occasional panicky feeling for no reason and sex became very painful. I went to to DR and blood test came back with normal hormone levels however she said I have vaginal atrophy and prescribed me oestrogen pessaries which have stopped all symptoms. I would definitely recommend seeing your GP x

I'm going to book a telephone appointment with my GP after the bank holiday.

It doesn't help that I have PCOS so my hormones have always been "wonky" but the last few months have been very different compared to the last 20 odd years and the random tearfulness is very new and completely unpredictable
