Brain fog - anything at all that might help

I’m 56, about 3 years since my last period, so, from what I’ve read, I should be out the other side by now, but the brain fog is still a big issue that is affecting my life in lots of ways - work, socialising, basic admin and financial stuff. Physically I feel pretty fine now - rarely getting hot flushes any more, and am past the exhaustion and mood swings, thankfully. I just want my brain back!

Things I already do:
Healthy diet, lots of veg, mostly avoid sugar.
Almost no alcohol.
I don’t smoke.
Pretty good sleep routine, 7-8 hours.
I walk a brisk 15k steps most days.
I’ve reduced my stress a lot (marriage broke up 2 yrs ago, but feeling pretty happy and relaxed now, apart from anxiety about my brain function).
When I remember I take a handful of vitamins, but not often.
I do crosswords, read a lot, go to museums, etc - my brain doesn’t lack stimulation.

But the brain fog is still awful. I’ve talked to my GP, had blood tests. She advised against HRT because physically I’m ok, and apparently HRT isn’t recommended for just brain fog.

What else can I try? Any supplements? More vigorous exercise? Any dietary things I could try giving up? Has anyone else still felt like this 3 years after your periods stopped? I’m just looking for any small (or big) things to try, or some hope that I might get my brain back soon.

Magnesium L-Threonate helped me. I get mine from Amazon and take 4 a day. Not cheap, but worth it.

HRT does help with brain fog, and if you are seriously inconvenienced by it, a trial
for a few months would be well worth undertaking. If your GP won’t prescribe it, but you have no contraindications, would you consider going private and getting a prescription that way, or requesting a second opinion from another GP at your NHS practice?

Given your brain fog is debilitating, and HRT could help with your brain fog, and you have weighed up the risks vs benefits, I’d push the gp for HRT. It’s not ‘just’ brain fog, brain fog is an awful thing to live with.

Thank you for the replies. When I spoke to the GP I thought it said on the NHS website that HRT wasn't proved to help with brain fog, and I think that's what the GP said, but I just checked and it does say it helps. I'll make an appointment and ask again. I don't think she'd be unwilling to prescribe it. She's a woman in her 50s so she's sympathetic...

I will look into Magnesium L-Threonate, though I think magnesium's one you can overdose on if not careful? I'll ask the GP about it and do some googling.

HRT absolutely helps with brain fog. Also omega3 supplements (EPA/DHA) 900 mg one a day.
