Tell me about your peri joint pains

I'm getting to a point where I'm not sure what is 'normal' aches and pains and what could be something else - I get pain in my joints after any kind of activity, driving a long way, sitting at a desk for longer than 2 hours or if it's anything like mowing the lawn 😖 that night I'm in loads of pain that wakes me up and the next day have additional headaches, and feel like I'm coming down with something. Joint pains are mostly in hands, shoulder, elbow and toes/ankles but can be all over.

What do your peri joint aches feel like and how often do you get them?

My aches felt like I’d ran a marathon. I started HRT this week after putting it off for about 3 years and I’m amazed at how much better I feel, no aches at all, I feel about 21 again 😁Are you on any HRT?

Staticgirl · 23/04/2023 15:42

Without HRT I have aches in my hips and knees. My knees feel weak like they're going to give way. With HRT that all goes away. Unfortunately I am unable to have HRT at the moment. Gah.

Bitterestpil · 23/04/2023 15:45

I had terrible aches and pains, my joints were shocking especially hips when I was peri. Two years post and those aches and pains have gone! No HRT here through choice.

bellac11 · 23/04/2023 15:58

I want to look into HRT later in the year, Im currently working through recovery from WLS and getting my head around my new life

Some years ago I noticed that when I didnt eat bread or bready products/wheaty products the swelling in my ankles and wrists and face went down. I also had funny pains in my finger joints and that has largely gone too, so now I cant eat bread/pasta etc. The few times I did I noticed all that coming back. Big shame

Now of late, I have had the most bizarre pains in my leg at nightime, it started before my surgery so it cant be that, they sort of at the front but also feel like they shoot down to my feet as well, I can only relieve it by turning over but its not always the leg on the bottom (I sleep on my side). Its really annoying, almost like sciatica but on the wrong side of my leg?

Plus my arthritis is a lot worse in my feet, the doctor said 'on once you've lost weight that will clear up'. Nope, its getting worse week by week and my weight is dropping week by week!!

Taking magnesium and a peri supplement have stopped all this for me.

DramaAlpaca · 23/04/2023 16:06

Finally going on HRT after resisting it all through perimenopause finally stopped my ppermanently aching joints.

What do you take?

I took magnesium once as I had been told it was a preventative for migraines (I used to have several a month) and it made me violently sick within the hour so I chucked them

Wouldnt be keen to try them again

Together natural magnesium and health and her peri supplements which i buy from holland & barrett.

bellac11 · 23/04/2023 16:14

In fact Ive just checked my bariatric supplements and the only thing in it which is not at 100% RDI or more, is the magnesium, its only 40%

Thats interesting, I wonder if I need a supplement then

But what supplement, there seem to be so many

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 23/04/2023 16:15

Bellac, i would also add there are different types of magnesium for sleep issues. I once bought magnesium citrate by accident and had an awful time with it.

Look at health and her supplements they do a few peri menopause options, they are very good.

I’ve got rsi in both wrists and my peri pains just make my arms/hands a bit useless, especially at night. Night time is worse for me…back, legs, arms and hands! I was on HRT for 1 year or so and it took care of all my peri symptoms. I came off it for about 1 year and was fine with a menopause vitamin supplement and some CBD which definitely worked on the pains. Things got worse again so I went back on HRT about 2 months ago and it’s cleared everything up again. My SIL can’t take HRT and she also uses CBD and it works for her.

AceofPentacles · 23/04/2023 17:04

Thanks everyone, I am on hrt quite a low dose though. It has sorted out my awful brain fog but these aches are seemingly getting worse . Glad I'm not an anomaly though! Perhaps I need to get some supplements and CBD.

I take vitaminD boots tabs. Has def helped my joints. Hrt patch not amazing results sleep still bit restless

AnnaMagnani · 25/04/2023 09:34

I had tennis elbow in both arms for years - now gone!

I almost hadn't realised how many joint pains I had until they disappeared.

Whatevergetsyouthroughthenight · 25/04/2023 09:41

I was terrible for a few years, if I had been sitting down I couldn’t stand up straight for the first few steps when I got up, my feet and ankles were really stiff in the morning and walking down stairs really difficult. Post menopause for three or four years and I am now fine. No HRT.
