What the hell has happened to my orgasms?!

They've disappeared! I am in Peri and on HRT - coil and oestrogen gel.

But I no longer feel a physical sensation on orgasm. The last four times I build, but then the sensation just stops when I peak rather than having the physical sensation of an orgasm. What can I do about this? I hate it! And is it Peri symptom or due to the HRT? HRT killed my increased peri sex drive (which I was loving), and how I worry its causing this?

I don't even know where to go to to ask about this or get it looked into!

If you've found this page in your search of orgasm gels and orgasm lubes that have been recommended by fellow Mumsnet users, you might find our guide to the best orgasm gels useful. Hope this helps! MNHQ

Are you using vaginal oestrogen as well as the HRT?

Seriouslyisthisitnow · 20/04/2023 10:21

No I'm not. GP started me on that but it did nothing for vaginal atrophy symptoms and eventually I went on full HRT which got rid of VT , though that is starting to return. I do feel Peri symptoms in general are increasing - lots of aches though that could just be my general inactivity at the moment.

You need both, HRT just doesn't hit the spot for vaginal atrophy. And if everything is wasting away down below, the orgasms will go to.

Were you just using it twice a week? It often needs more.

Seriouslyisthisitnow · 20/04/2023 11:15

Ok, I'll go back to the GP and ask for some cream. Is there anything else that might help?

I can't remember how often I was using it tbh!

Butting in here - but with the topical oestrogen cream, are you meant to smear it on all over labia, or just insert into vagina (it comes with vaginal applicator)? I have rather deadened issues down there too (mostly just total absence of libido Sad) and I use the cream twice a week, but internally as directed. Does it travel?? Or should I rub it in round clitoris too??

AnnaMagnani · 20/04/2023 15:24

Both and likely more than twice a week.

I do either/or and added together it's probably 4x a week and my symptoms are far less than most people report on here.

One week of itching and getting up to the loo and I had had enough.

bettybadger · 21/04/2023 20:02

Mine started going that way. And my libido disappeared. I've been on testosterone for 6 months and it seems to be making a difference. Orgasms definitely back to normal strength & libido seems to have finally made a proper reappearance just this week! GrinTook me about a year to get an appointment from being referred by GP to NHS menopause clinic. Some GPs will also prescribe it without referring I think.

Ovestin cream is what you need. You can use it externally to plump everything up (as everything thins with menopause) and internally as well. Use it liberally. More than they say. It’s super low dose so won’t do any harm. It’s made a huge difference to me (I have full hrt as well).

At the menopause clinic I was told that there are no oestrogen receptors in the vulva, only inside the vagina, so rubbing oestrogen cream on the outside won't do anything more than a normal moisturiser would.

I'm pretty sure that when I use oestrogen cream on the outside it DOES make a difference, but who am I to argue with science.

silverlentils · 21/04/2023 20:10

Ovestin cream is good, it's a stronger dose than estriol cream

AnnaMagnani · 21/04/2023 20:11

I was told there weren't as many but they were there.

RudsyFarmer · 21/04/2023 20:14

Talk about testosterone with the GP. That strikes me as something that would make a difference.

Seriouslyisthisitnow · 21/04/2023 20:16

Thanks everyone. I think I will go to the GP about the testosterone too. Are there side effects of that?

I have a leftover tube of ovestin so will try that in the meantime.
