How.can I be sure it isn't cancer?

I'm 51 and last month had an early and heavy period with spotting a week beforehand As an ocd sufferer this 'anything goes' stage is a struggle for me and I have been so lucky up to now to have not had any issues other than a few late periods.
Typically for me, I am thinking it could be womb cancer which also creates the same symptoms.
I'm sure they do not send every woman with peri symptoms for a scan, so how can they and I be sure it is peri and nothing more sinister?
I ve read it is possible, but doesn't seem to be mentioned and the last thing I want is to be back and forth to the gp when my body is supposed to be doing its own thing at this stage.
I am just scared I will something as there are so many changes going on all at once.

This is worth a GP appt to discuss your concerns.

A few years ago, I was worried I had ovarian cancer, which was triggered after a friend's mother had died of it, and I had ongoing pains and discomfort.

My GP did send me for a scan and I was given the all clear re ovaries, but did have a fibroid - which was actually very reassuring as it explained why I was having the pains – but that it wasn't something particularly sinister.

No one on Mumsnet can really diagnose or help you with this - and any reassurance is potentially unhelpful in case your concerns are right - but it is worth going to your GP and discussing, even if it is just to help you put your own mind at rest.

I agree with @CorsicaDreaming (great name, I love Corsica)!
Always go to your GP if you have any concerns.

Random periods are a symptom of peri menopause. Mine stopped and started, I had flooding or they were super light. It really is what happens. There are other symptoms of womb cancer that your GP will check.

You are right- they can't give every perimenopausal woman a scan. What they do give scans for routinely is any post menopausal bleeding.

You could pay for a private ultrasound scan if the GP says what you are experiencing is normal.

Thank you for your replies.
I think my ocd and the sudden changes to my bleeding are at the root of this. I don't think I have cancer, but it is all quite frightening when you find change difficult.

Speak to your GP ASAP - if they are concerned, they will refer you for a scan, etc. It is very unlikely to be cancer, but a proper investigation can put your mind at rest.

I am menopausal and have had bleeding since changing HRT - getting worse and worse. I was pretty sure it is hormone related, but the GP referred me on the 2 week wait pathway and I had a scan and biopsy done within 2 weeks. Got the all clear for cancer about 10 days later and am going in for a hysteroscopy/possible polyp removal and probably insertion of the mirena coil as it looks like I’m not absorbing the progesterone in my HRT.

Hopefully a less worrying than cancer explanation for yours too
